Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Non-conference play continues for Lourdes University on Thursday evening, as the Gray Wolves return to the road to face Notre Dame (Ohio). Lourdes has won two of its last three games, and looks to continue its momentum this week prior to an upcoming homestand.
Head Coach Alyssa Shaver: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Alyssa Shaver has a 4-2 (.667) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves and as well as a collegiate head coach. She is just the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes will be meeting Notre Dame (Ohio) on the lacrosse field for the first time in program history.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes scored 16 unanswered goals spanning the two halves on Thursday evening as the Gray Wolves rolled to a 23-3 victory over Bethel (Ind.) in their home opener at Wildcat Stadium.Â
Katherine Garver scored four times and added three assists while
Alyssa Long and
Shelby Kellar both found the back of the net twice as well. With the Gray Wolves holding a 32-4 shot advantage for the game,
Kiley Ketteman needed to make just one save in goal for the victory.
Scouting Notre Dame (Ohio): The Falcons have dropped three of their last four games heading into the contest with Lourdes after suffering a 16-5 loss on the road at Walsh last Wednesday afternoon. Selena Carter leads Notre Dame with 14 goals and 16 points while Taylor Henderson has added nine goals and a team-high four assists. Morgan Belting has play nearly every minute in goal, sporting a 14.63 goals against average and a .360 save percentage this season for the Falcons.
The Best Start Ever: Lourdes' 4-2 record through the first six games of the season betters the 2016 season, which opened 3-3, for the best start in program history. The four victories also are one shy of the entire 2017 campaign's win total, and are two shy of the 2016 school record of six triumphs in one year.
Lots of Goals: Lourdes broke the single game scoring record on Thursday against Bethel (Ind.) with its 23-goal performance. The Gray Wolves had previously set the single game record earlier this season in the opener at Cleary with 22 goals. Prior to this year, Lourdes had never scored more than 21 goals in a game.
A New Single Season Record: With nine assists against Bethel (Ind.) on Thursday, also a new single game mark, Lourdes now has 33 helpers on the year, setting a new single season record for assists. The Gray Wolves' previous high was 28 set during the 2017 campaign.
Jumping in Front Early: Lourdes has outscored its opponents by 40, 101-61 this season, doing most of the damage in the first half. The Gray Wolves have scored 67 first half goals, outscoring the opposition 67-33 in the opening 30 minutes before holding just a 34-28 scoring edge in the second half.
Firsts: Brandy Lowery scored her first collegiate goal last Thursday in the win over Bethel (Ind.).Â
Margaret Janiga drew the assist on the tally, which marked the first career helper and collegiate point for the senior.
Making the Stops: Kiley Ketteman ranks 11th in the NAIA making 9.17 saves per game this season. Her 55 total saves are 13th most in the country, and she enters the week sporting an 10.17 goals against average and a .474 save percentage.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Alyssa Long ranks sixth in the NAIA averaging 6.33 points per game. Her 4.50 goals per contest are eighth best nationally. As a team, Lourdes ranks sixth in the country scoring 16.83 goals per game and their 5.50 assists per contest rank ninth on the national level.
Getting Defensive: Hannah Cullis leads the Gray Wolves with 28 ground balls, 20 draw controls, and 13 caused turnovers thus far this year. She is just seven ground balls away from moving into the single season top-five all-time at Lourdes.
