Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes takes to the road for a pair of contests this week games this week, beginning with a Tuesday evening non-conference contest at Walsh. The Gray Wolves return to WHAC play on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Concordia (Mich.).
Head Coach Alyssa Shaver: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Alyssa Shaver has a 6-3 (.667) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves and as well as a collegiate head coach. She is just the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Walsh have split a pair of contests in a series that began March 21, 2014. The Cavaliers won the initial meeting 16-9 before Lourdes posted a 14-13 victory one season later. Both games have been played in North Canton, Ohio. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Concordia (Mich.) in a series that began March 25, 2017. The Gray Wolves won both meetings in 2017 between the two schools, downing the Cardinals 16-5 in Ann Arbor and 14-4 at Wildcat Stadium.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes earned its third consecutive victory on Tuesday, defeating Heidelberg 13-4 at Wildcat Stadium.
Alyssa Long scored five times and added two assists while
Anna Zofchak and
Tiara Reed added three goals each.
Kiley Ketteman made 12 saves in the victory. The Gray Wolves opened WHAC play on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 17-7 decision to sixth-ranked Indiana Tech. Long had five goals and two assists for Lourdes while Ketteman made 12 stops in net.
Scouting Walsh: The Cavaliers had their five-game winning streak snapped on Thursday evening, falling 16-11 to Lake Erie at home. Emma Armour leads Walsh with 25 goals and 17 assists for 42 total points while Jenny Spragg has added 18 goals. Sarah McCormick has tallied 14 assists while winning 41 draw controls. In goal, Mikaela Faus has played a majority of the minutes, sporting an 8.46 goals against average and a .495 save percentage.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals enter the week idle since a 14-11 loss at home to Cleary on March 24, but were credited with a forfeit victory over Truett-McConnell on March 25. Concordia travels to Indiana Tech on Tuesday evening before hosting Lourdes. Abigail Turner leads Concordia with 17 goals on the year while Greyson Papp has 11 goals and 12 total points. Brianna Limback leads the team in assists with three. In goal, Samantha Shatrau has played every minute for Concordia, sporting a 16.94 goals against average and a .403 save percentage.
Matching the School Record: With Lourdes' victory over Heidelberg last Tuesday, the Gray Wolves won their sixth game of the season, matching the program record for wins in a year. The 2016 team also won six games, finishing their campaign with a 6-10 overall mark.
Long Passes One Milestone, Nearing Another: Alyssa Long surpassed the 200-goal plateau for her career on Saturday evening with her five-goal performance against Indiana Tech. The Gray Wolf senior now has 202 career goals, most in program history. She is also just four points shy of 250 for her career after a seven-point game against the Warriors, and needs six assists to reach 50 over her four years at Lourdes.
Reed Having Solid Season: Tiara Reed has already scored 28 goals for the Gray Wolves through the first nine games of the season, passing her total of 25 from her rookie season. The Lourdes sophomore now has 53 goals during her first season and a half.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Alyssa Long ranks third in the NAIA averaging 6.78 points per game. Her 4.78 goals per contest are seventh best nationally, and her 2.00 assists rank 11th in the country. Lourdes ranks 10th in the country as a team scoring 14.89 goals per game and its 4.67 assists per contest rank 11th on the national level.
Making the Stops: Kiley Ketteman is having her finest season in goal as a Gray Wolf through the midway point of 2018. Her 10.11 goals against average is more than two goals below her previous best (12.50, 2017) and her .477 save percentage is significantly lower than her sophomore mark of .430.
