Lourdes opened Saturday's doubleheader with Aquinas picking up a 5-1 victory before the Saints rebounded in game two, downing the Gray Wolves 10-3 at Mercy Field.
 
Matt York (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) went the distance in the opener for the win (3-3), allowing just three hits and four walks while striking out five.  He carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning.
 
"By earning the split we set ourselves up to have a chance to win the series tomorrow," head coach Jeremy Snow said afterwards.  "York pitched great, putting up a senior performance to keep us in the hunt to make the conference tournament.  Our offense was good in the opener, but we had a different energy level in game two.  We need to stay at a high level if we want to be successful."
 
Lourdes took the lead in the third inning of game one as Cameron Gallo (Mason, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick H.S.) tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Devin Stanley (Euclid, Ohio/Saint Edward H.S.). 
 
Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) added to the lead with a two-run home run in the third, and added a solo shot leading off the eighth.  Glen Crabtree (Median, Ohio/Black River H.S.) added a RBI single for an insurance run in the eighth inning as well.
 
Aquinas plated one on back-to-back doubles with two outs in the ninth.
 
Denman had a three-hit game for the Gray Wolves as part of an eight-hit attack, six of which came off starter Max Ludka, who suffered the loss (4-4) despite striking out nine in seven innings.
 
The Saints scored an unearned run in the top of the first of game two before Lourdes responded immediately.  A two-run, two-out double by Crabtree put the Gray Wolves in front 2-1 after one.
 
Aquinas scored three in the second and two in the fourth to take control of the game.  Stanley added a RBI single for Lourdes in the fifth, but the Gray Wolves would manage just one more hit the rest of the way.  The Saints tacked on two more runs in the eighth and another two in the ninth to close the scoring.
 
Stanley had the only multi-hit game for Lourdes in game two, as the Gray Wolves finished with eight hits.
 
Jordan Wahr earned the win (4-4), allowing just one earned run in five innings of work while Kyle Brooks tossed four scoreless frames to earn the save.  Liam Bloom (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.) suffered the loss (1-5), yielding six runs and eight hits in four innings of work.
 
Lourdes (18-21, 9-15 WHAC) and Aquinas (14-22, 6-13) will close out their weekend series on Sunday morning, with first pitch set for 11 a.m.
