Braxton McKart (Monroe, Mich./Monroe H.S.) tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout on Sunday as Lourdes won the rubber match of its weekend series from Aquinas 4-0 at Mercy Field.
Â
McKart walked just three and struck out five while throwing 117 pitches in the win (5-0), the second shutout of the year for the Gray Wolves.
Â
The game was scoreless into the bottom of the fifth when the Gray Wolves manufactured the game's first run.Â
Dallas Riggs (Prescott, Ariz./Bradshaw Mountain H.S.) led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Cole Cantelon (Langley, B.C./Brookswood Secondary H.S.). After a wild pitch moved Riggs up 90 feet,
Dan Johnson (Westland, Mich./Franklin H.S.) put Lourdes in front with a single to center.
Â
Lourdes tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh, capitalizing on a Saints' error. With two outs,
George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Central H.S.) singled home two and
Cameron Gallo (Mason, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick H.S.) followed with a double, giving the Gray Wolves a four-run advantage.
Â
McKart never allowed more than one base runner in an inning until the eighth, but stranded two Saints.
Â
Riggs and Pastor had two hits each for Lourdes as part of a seven-hit game for the Gray Wolves.
Â
Brad Buurstra suffered the loss (1-7) for Aquinas (14-23, 6-14 WHAC), allowing four runs, only one of which was earned, and five hits while pitching into the seventh inning.
Â
Lourdes (19-21, 10-15) will begin its final WHAC series of the season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Rochester (Mich.) at Mercy Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. The series will conclude on Sunday with a Senior Day doubleheader.
