Lourdes jumped out to a quick start on Wednesday evening in Southfield, Mich., but Lawrence Tech rallied to defeat the Gray Wolves in five sets, 11-25, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 15-8 inside of Ridler Fieldhouse.
 
"We started off well, but couldn't maintain that level of execution," head coach Greg Reitz said after the match.  "They played very well defensively and we did not adjust well.  This is a tough loss, but we will get back to work to try to fix our flaws."
 
The Gray Wolves hit .500 in the opening set, putting down 13 kills on just 24 swings, to take the early lead.  Lourdes scored 14 of the final 18 points while cruising to the victory.
 
Lawrence Tech responded in the second, taking a quick 7-1 lead before a pair of service aces by Niki Polce (New Boston, Mich./New Boston H.S.) spearheaded seven straight Gray Wolf points.  The set saw 11 ties and four lead changes before the Blue Devils eventually evened the match with the narrow victory.
 
Lourdes led 20-14 in the third set before the Blue Devils rallied.  Lawrence Tech hit .265 in the stanza, its best of the night, on the way to pulling out the victory. 
 
The Gray Wolves fought back in the fourth to extend the match.  Trailing 19-17, Lourdes scored six of the next eight points to pull back in front and force the decisive set. 
 
The hosts scored seven of the first 10 points in the fifth set and never allowed Lourdes to pull back even, as Lawrence Tech notched its first victory over the Gray Wolves all-time in 15 matches.
 
Monique Oliveira (Rio Branco, Brazil/Americo Rene Giannetti H.S.) led Lourdes with 18 kills and 11 digs while Tylar Roberson (Elkhart,Ind./Central H.S.) added 13 kills.  Emily Arnold (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) put down 10 balls while Carol Goncalves (Brazilia, Brazil/Sagrado Corcacao de Maria H.S.) handed out 41 assists while adding 13 digs.  As a team Lourdes hit just .130 on the night.
 
Defensively, Angelica Dippold (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) registered a team-high 24 digs while Polce added 22 more.  The Gray Wolves were outdug 94-83 on the night.  Evan Matheson (Fallon, Nev./Churchill County H.S.) was involved in a match-high six blocks.
 
Kristi Doherty led Lawrence Tech (8-3, 2-0 WHAC) with a triple-double.  She tallied a team-high 14 digs, 26 assists, and 25 digs.
 
Lourdes (4-1, 1-1) continues its four-match road trip on Friday evening, traveling to Dearborn, Mich. to battle Michigan-Dearborn.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside of UMD Fieldhouse.
