Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes University, ranked third in the preseason NAIA national poll, opens its eighth season of men's collegiate volleyball this week as the Gray Wolves travel to Goshen on Tuesday evening to battle the Maple Leafs in their inaugural Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match.  Lourdes returns home on Friday and Saturday to host the Gray Wolf Classic, facing Webber International, Saint Andrews, and Robert Morris (Ill.).

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball, Greg Reitz has a 136-59 (.697) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  He has earned five conference Coach of the Year honors during his first seven seasons at Lourdes.  He is the only head coach in program history.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Goshen are meeting on the volleyball court for the first time on Tuesday evening.  The Gray Wolves are 1-0 all-time against Webber International, defeating the Warriors in straight sets on Feb. 24, 2018 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.  Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Saint Andrews, winning a pair of contests last season.  The Gray Wolves won in five sets in Campbellsville, Ky. before downing the Knights in four sets in the NAIA National Invitational.  Lourdes is 13-1 all-time against Robert Morris (Ill.) dating back to Jan. 28, 2012.  The Gray Wolves have won seven straight meetings in the series, including a pair last season, one in four sets and another in five sets.
 
Wrapping Up 2018: The Gray Wolves finished the 2018 campaign with a 23-8 record overall, winning the Independent Group tournament.  The Gray Wolves advanced to the NAIA National Invitational national semifinals before falling to Benedictine-Mesa in four sets.  Eric Ubior was an AVCA All-America Team selection while Evan Gebert earned Honorable Mention All-America honors.

Scouting Goshen: The Maple Leafs are in their first season as a varsity program and still looking for their first victory after falling at Trinity Christian in four sets on Friday evening.  Alexander Rabadzhiev leads Goshen with 28 kills while Michael Wahl has handed out 57 assist thus far this year.  Defensively, Wahl also leads the Maple Leafs with 18 digs.

Scouting Webber International: The Warriors posted a 6-14 record in 2018 and return 10 players from last year's squad.  Liam Gilchrist led Webber International with 188 kills and 85 digs while Kyle Robertson handed out a team-leading 295 assists.

Scouting Saint Andrews: The Knights opened their season on Jan. 15 with a four-set loss at Coker.  Diego Hernandez lead Saint Andrews with 14 kills while Daryn Friedman and Jackson Stark each had six digs.  Stark also had a team-high 36 assists.

Scouting Robert Morris (Ill.): The Eagles opened their season on Tuesday at Judson and travel to Goshen on Thursday before heading to the Gray Wolf Classic.  Robert Morris finished 25-10 in 2018.  Nicholas Allen is the team's top returner in kills with 272 last season while Bobby Ying is the top returner with 181 digs last season.

Lourdes in Season and Home Openers: The Gray Wolves are 5-2 all-time in their season openers.  Lourdes had its five-match winning streak in season openers snapped last season, falling in four sets at home against Culver-Stockton.  Last year's loss also snapped a five-match win streak in home openers, moving Lourdes to 5-2 all-time in their first match of the season at home.

Facing Ranked Opponents: Lourdes is 22-48 all-time against teams ranked in the NAIA top-10.  Last season the Gray Wolves posted a 7-3 mark against ranked foes, including a four-set victory on the road over top-ranked Grand View on March 7, 2018.

Highest Ranking Ever: Lourdes preseason ranking of third in the NAIA matches the highest the Gray Wolves have ever reached.  Last year the Gray Wolves finished the year ranked fourth nationally, matching its previous highest ranking.

WHAC Volleyball Begins: For the first time, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference is sponsoring men's volleyball during the 2019 season.  The Gray Wolves join Siena Heights and Lawrence Tech as programs with established men's volleyball teams.  Aquinas began men's volleyball prior to this season, as did Goshen, which joins the league as an affiliate member.  The league's tournament champion will receive a bid to the NAIA National Championships.

New Faces: Lourdes has four players on its roster that will be making their Gray Wolf debut this season.  Brady Boyle is the lone true freshman on the roster this season while Lance Blough, Kevin Moore, and Max Petuhov all transferred to Lourdes prior to the season.  Guga Heidrich also joined the program as a freshman this season, but will not compete this in 2019.

This and That: Evan Gebert enters the season fifth all-time at Lourdes with 633 career kills, sixth with 316 digs, and seventh with 35 career service aces ... Brendan Brown is third in school history with a .368 career attack percentage ... Henrique Gehrke begins the season sixth in school history with 685 assists .
