No. 3 Lourdes Opens Season with Sweep at Goshen

Third-ranked Lourdes opened its 2019 season on Tuesday evening with a 25-15, 25-22, 25-20 victory over Goshen inside of Gunden Gymnasium in Goshen, Ind.
 
"We played well tonight," head coach Greg Reitz said after the match.  Our serve receive was pretty consistent which allowed our offense to be very efficient.  We didn't serve a well as we would like, but for our first match I like where we are at."
 
Lourdes came out quickly in the opening set, putting down 13 kills on just 19 swings for a .632 hitting percentage.  The Gray Wolves added 17 kills in the second and finished the match with 43 total while hitting at a .366 clip on the night.
 
Ricardo Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) led all players with 15 kills while swinging at a .458 rate on the night for Lourdes while Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) added 12 kills.  Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) added 11 kills on 17 swings for a .529 hitting percentage.
 
Henrique Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) handed out 36 assists in the season opener while adding seven digs defensively.  Matheus Andrade (Coronel Fabriciano, Brazil/Alberto Giovanni H.S.) led everyone with eight digs for the Gray Wolves.  Brendan Brown (Pittsburg, Pa./North Allegheny H.S.) blocked four balls at the net.
 
Alexander Rabadzhiev led Goshen (0-3, 0-2 WHAC) with 11 kills as the Maple Leafs hit just .111 as a team on the night. 
 
Lourdes (1-0, 1-0 WHAC) will host the Gray Wolf Classic this Friday and Saturday inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.  The Gray Wolves face Webber International on Friday at 3 p.m. and 10th-ranked Saint Andrews at 8 p.m.
