Lourdes posted victories over Webber International and 10
th-ranked Saint Andrews on Friday inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center to begin play in the Gray Wolf Classic.

The Gray Wolves were 25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 25-10 victors over Webber International before downing the Knights 25-16, 25-12, 25-18 in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Gray Wolves started quickly offensively, hitting .550 in the opening set. Leading 18-13, Lourdes closed on a 7-3 run to take the first from the Warriors.

Lourdes put down 13 kills for the second straight set in building a 2-0 lead in the match. Four straight points to begin the stanza followed by a 6-0 run late paved the way for the victory.

Webber International rebounded in the third, committing just one attack error while hitting .417. The Warriors raced out to a 5-1 lead, and despite Lourdes pulling even at 17, the visitors were able to fend off the rally to extend the match.

The Gray Wolves controlled the fourth set, needing just 20 swings to put down 15 kills, a .750 hitting percentage. Leading 8-5, Lourdes went on a 7-1 run to pull away, and followed with another 9-1 spurt to secure the victory.

Lourdes hit .427 for the match and outdug the Warriors 45-28, limiting Webber International to a .136 offensive clip.

"Our offensive was very efficient as a whole," head coach
Greg Reitz said following the opener. "We had a lull in our discipline in the third set, but otherwise played a pretty solid match. We served aggressively and blocked well, but we had too many reception errors."

Ricardo Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with 15 kills and 10 digs while hitting .522. His brother,
Henrique Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) handed out 52 assists while
Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) put down a match-high 18 kills.Â
Lance Blough (Hooversville, Pa./Shade-Central City H.S.) recorded seven digs defensively.

Liam Gilchrist led Webber International (0-2) with 10 kills while Steven Bartlett had a match-high 11 digs for the Warriors.

The offense continued to click against Saint Andrews, as Lourdes hit .411 with 40 kills in the three-set contest.Â
Ricardo Gehrke put down 11 more kills while hitting .400 and
Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) added nine kills at a .643 clip.Â
Henrique Gehrke handed out 34 assists.

"I was really happy with our match overall," Reitz said after the Saint Andrews contest. "We were very consistent in all phases of the match against a very quality opponent."

Lourdes put down 14 kills in each of the first two sets, racing out to a 12-4 lead in the opener. The Gray Wolves utilized a 12-2 spurt midway through the second to take build the 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third, Lourdes hit .476 with just two miscues. Trailing 13-11, the Gray Wolves took the lead for good with a 7-1 run on the way to the sweep.

Matheus Andrade (Coronel Fabriciano, Brazil/Alberto Giovanni H.S.) led all players with 12 digs defensively while
Brendan Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny H.S.) registered four blocks.

Saint Andrews (1-2) hit just .027 for the match with Nate Blackwell leading the way with seven kills.

Lourdes (3-0) concludes play in the Gray Wolf Classic on Saturday, hosting Robert Morris (Ill.). First serve is set for 3 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
