Lourdes Falls at No. 16 Marian 28-9

Final Results

Competing in the first of back-to-back matches against nationally-ranked foes, Lourdes suffered a 28-9 setback to 16th-ranked Marian on Sunday afternoon inside the Physical Education Center in Indianapolis, Ind.

Wrestling the Knights for the second time this season, the Gray Wolves were much more competitive this time, after falling 49-0 back on Dec. 8 as part of the Warrior Duals.

"We wrestled a solid nationally-ranked program today, so it is imperative that we step out on the mat ready to complete," head coach Dock Kelly III said afterwards.

Ray Porter (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville H.S.) started the day on a positive note for the Gray Wolves at 125 pounds.  His takedown in overtime gave him a 9-7 sudden victory over Christopher Sharp, who was ranked 17th nationally in the weight class.

Nick Henneman (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) tied the match at six with his 6-4 decision at 141 pounds.  Henneman, who is currently ranked 10th nationally at 141 pounds, downed Mason Miranda.

Marian won each of the next six weight classes to secure the victory.  For the day, the Knights won four of their seven matches via decision and one by major decision, with only two triumphs coming by way of falls.

Alec Moore-Nash (Price Hill, Ohio/Elder H.S.) closed the day on a positive note for Lourdes, earning a 9-4 decision at 285 pounds.  The nation's 17th-ranked grappler as a heavyweight defeated Seth Abad for his team-leading 13th victory of the season.

"It was great to see Ray Porter defray a nationally-ranked guy," Kelly added.  "I was also happy to see Nick Henneman and Alec Moore-Nash pull out solid victories as well.  We have a short time to prepare for another nationally-ranked opponent on Thursday night, but we are looking forward to the challenge."

Lourdes (7-9) will close out the home portion of the 2018-2019 season on Thursday evening, as the Gray Wolves host second-ranked Indiana Tech.  Action begins at 7 p.m. with Senior Night activities taking place prior to the match.
