Lourdes defeated host Case Western Reserve 30-20 but fell to Thiel 26-23 in a tri-match on Wednesday evening held inside of Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio as part of the CWRU Throwdown.
"It was great to be back on the mats tonight," head coach
Dock Kelly III said afterwards. "We wreetled well enough to defeat Case Western, but unfortunately, we came up short against Thiel. We have quite a few areas that we need to address, so we will focus on those immediately."
Garrett Anderson (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) recorded a pair of pins on the evening in the 149-pound weight class. He recorded the fall against Thiel at the 2:33 mark of the opening period before doing the same against the event hosts at the 2:39 mark.
Noah Clary (Upper Sandusky, Ohio/Upper Sandusky H.S.) also registered a pair of falls at 184 pounds, both early in the third period. His win against Case Western came at the 5:27 mark while he defeated Thiel at 5:22.
Nick Henneman (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) won both of his matches at 141 for the Gray Wolves while
Jake Bria (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield H.S.) did the same at 174 pounds. Henneman posted a 12-2 major decision over Case Western and an 18-1 tech fall versus Thiel. Bria pinned Case Western at the 2:39 mark while earning a decision against Thiel 5-2.
Garrett Carter (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Saint Vincent-Saint Mary H.S.) posted a 17-1 tech fall at 157 versus Case Western while
Alec Moore-Nash (Price Hill, Ohio/Elder H.S.) won a 6-5 decision at 285 pounds.
Tyler Roberts (Hudson, Mich./Hudson H.S.) picked up a victory at 133 pounds against Thiel with a 7-0 decision.
"We did have several guys that wrestled well tonight, so I am encouraged with our progress in a few weight classes," Kelly added. "We have a quick turnaround, but I'm looking forward to our next challenge on Saturday."
Lourdes (6-8) will remain on the road Saturday evening, traveling to the Rike Center in Westerville, Ohio to battle Otterbein. The opening bout is set for 6:30 p.m.
