Amoo Nets Match-Winner in Double-Overtime

Farouk Amoo (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood H.S.) broke a scoreless deadlock with 5:05 remaining in the second overtime on Friday evening, giving Lourdes a 1-0 road victory over Cornerstone at the CU Soccer Stadium in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The redshirt-junior deflected in a pass from Lucas Bosch (Las Palmas, Spain/Colegio Heidelberg H.S.) to net his fourth goal of the season, and second match-winner of the year.

The goal was the only shot attempt taken by the Gray Wolves in either overtime session, as Lourdes finished the match with 11 total attempts, five of which were on net.  Cornerstone (1-12-1, 0-7 WHAC) also recorded one shot beyond the 90th minutes, an attempt that missed the mark in the first overtime period.

Shots were even 4-4 in the first half before Lourdes held a 6-3 edge in the second 45 minutes.  The Gray Wolves doubled the Golden Eagles in corner kicks as well for the match, 10-5.

Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon H.S./Fontainebleau [La.] H.S.) and Garrett Baxley (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood H.S.) teamed up for the shutout in goal.  Chokr made three stops in the first 57:49 of the match while Baxley made one save while coming on in relief.  Joshua Mitchell made four saves in net for Cornerstone.

Lourdes (5-9, 3-4) will close out the road portion of the 2019 regular season on Wednesday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Livonia, Mich. to battle Madonna.  Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Madonna Athletic Complex.
