Lourdes Sweeps Rochester for Fifth Straight WHAC Victory

Lourdes registered its fifth consecutive sweep in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves downed Rochester (Mich.) 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"We did not play our best volleyball of the season, but we're happy to come away with another win," head coach Greg Reitz said following the contest.  "We need to clean some things up heading into a big weekend ahead."

Lourdes trailed 8-5 early in the opening set before scoring the next six points to pull in front behind the service of Allie Hale (Holland, Ind./Springfield H.S.).  The Warriors kept the set tight, with nine ties in the stanza, and were even with the Gray Wolves 16-16 before Emily Drenth (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South H.S.) served up the final nine points.

The Gray Wolves would not trail the rest of the match.  Lourdes hit .300 in set two with 16 kills and used a 7-2 run midway through to build a 16-9 lead on the way to the victory.  Leading 8-7 in the third, Yasmin Assis (Salto, Brazil/Antonio Alves Aranha H.S.) keyed a 7-0 run from the service line Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) led a 6-0 spurt late in the match as the Gray Wolves completed the sweep.

Drenth led the Gray Wolves with 15 kills and hit .333 for the match while Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) added 12 more kills.  Assis handed out 39 assist while running and offense that hit .258 on the evening.

Defensively, Plasencio had a team-high 13 digs while Rafa Borges (Uberlandia, Brazil/CESEC H.S.) tallied four blocks.

Jenna Pomaville led Rochester (0-15, 0-7 WHAC) with eight kills while Kaitlyn Williams had a match-high 16 digs for the Warriors.

Lourdes (8-7, 5-2) returns to the road on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves head to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle Cornerstone.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Mol Arena.
