Lourdes closed out the home schedule and celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center, but Aquinas spoiled the occasion, defeating the Gray Wolves 11-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-23.

Prior the match,
Sarah Wisser (Schoolcraft, Mich./Schoolcraft H.S.) and
Angelica Dippold (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) were both honored for their contributions to the program over the past few seasons.

When the match began, Lourdes started quickly. The Gray Wolves never trailed in the opening set, and used a 7-1 run midway through to build a 14-6 lead and never looked back. Lourdes tallied 14 kills while committing just one error, and hit .342 in the stanza.
Â
The roles were reversed in the second set as Aquinas took a 10-5 lead and added a late 7-1 spurt to even the match. The Saints went on a 5-0 run in the third to forge in front for good 11-7 and closed with a 10-3 run on the way to winning the set.
Â
Aquinas (15-12, 12-6 WHAC) raced out to a 6-1 lead in the fourth before Lourdes battled back with an 8-1 run to pull in front 13-12. The Gray Wolves increased their lead to 19-16 before the Saints made a late rally. Seven consecutive points gave Aquinas a 23-19 edge and the visitors closed out the match.
Â
"We can't make as many errors at crucial times as we did today when battling good teams," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "They really hurt us and when we are battling for positioning in the standings we can't afford to make them."
Â
