Lourdes Takes No. 8 Mount Vernon Nazarene to Overtime in Road Debut

Taking to the road for the first time this season, Lourdes went to overtime with Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday evening, but the eighth-ranked Cougars defeated the Gray Wolves 95-87 inside of Ariel Arena in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

"On the road it's tough," head coach Dennis Hopson said after the game.  "It was a hard fought battle.  We just need to continue to get better each day."

Julian Egbo (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.) made a three-pointer as time expired in the first half to give Lourdes a 46-45 lead at the break, and the Gray Wolves never trailed by more than one in the second half before the Cougars rallied in the final seconds to force the extra session.

The second half was tight throughout, with the Gray Wolves never holding a lead of more than four points.  Lourdes led 74-71 in the closing seconds when Jevon Knox tied the game with 10 seconds to play, forcing overtime.

"We had it won in regulation but didn't make plays down the stretch," Hopson added.  "Their kid got open and hit the shot at the end."

Knox scored the first seven points of overtime as Mount Vernon Nazarene opened with a 14-3 run, and Lourdes was never able to battle back even.  The Gray Wolves got as close as six in the final seconds after trailing by as many as 11 in the extra period.

There were 17 lead changes in the first half, with neither team leading by more than five points.

Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) led Lourdes with 16 points while Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added 14 more.  Egbo had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Kenny Coleman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) also contributed 11 points.

Knox finished with a game-high 27 points for Mount Vernon Nazarene (4-0), while Jacob Paul added 20 more.

Lourdes (1-2) will return home to the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Wright State-Lake.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
