Lourdes Downs Kent State-Tuscarawas for School-Record Ninth Straight Win

Lourdes set a new school record with its ninth consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves defeated Kent State-Tuscarawas 84-63 inside of Founders Hall in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) made his first 13 field goal attempts of the game on the way to 30 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double.  As a team, Lourdes shot 55.9% from the floor for the afternoon.

Lourdes started fast, making six of its first seven shots from the floor while building a 12-6 lead just over five minutes into the contest.  The lead grew to 10, 18-8, after a Nick Welch (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary Catholic Central H.S.) basket at the 10-minute mark.

Kent State-Tuscarawas answered with a 10-3 run to pull within three, 21-18.  The Gray Wolf lead fluctuated between three and seven the rest of the half before Lourdes took a 38-33 lead into the locker room.

"You have to give them credit, Kent State-Tuscarawas came with great energy in the first half," head coach Dennis Hopson said after the game.  "We did a good job of refocusing in the second half.  We got the opportunity to see a lot of guys play that haven't had a lot of time."

A 9-2 run early in the second half pushed the Gray Wolves lead to 17, 59-42, with 11 minutes remaining.  The Golden Eagles made a run though, using a 12-1 spurt to pull within six, 62-56, with 7:10 to play.

Mike Bruce (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti H.S.), playing in his first regular season game at Lourdes, stopped the run with a three-pointer and Snow followed with a lay-up to push the lead back to double figures while starting a 12-0 Gray Wolf run of its own.

The Gray Wolves pushed the lead to as many as 21 on the way to closing out the wire-to-wire victory.

Bruce tallied 15 points while Welch added 12 more for the Gray Wolves.

Jacob Hicks led Kent State-Tuscarawas (6-8) with 17 points and eight rebounds while Gunnar Tharp added 15 points.

Lourdes (12-3) returns to action on Friday evening, as the Gray Wolves travel to Middletown, Ohio to face Miami-Middletown.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside of Bennett Recreation Center.
