Gray Wolves Fall on the Road at Michigan-Dearborn

Lourdes was unable to come up with its first road victory of the season on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves dropped a 70-57 decision to the University of Michigan-Dearborn inside the UMD Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.

Sara Semler (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) and Sirena Pitts (Orlando, Fla./Ocoee H.S.) accounted for nearly half of the Lourdes points on the evening, scoring 14 points each.  For Pitts, a redshirt-junior, it marked her career high as a Gray Wolf.

"We struggled tonight, but as a team we will keep fighting," head coach John Kenger said afterwards.

Michigan-Dearborn jumped in front quickly, utilizing a 12-2 run to open up a double digit advantage, 15-5, just over five minutes into the contest.  The Wolverines led by as many as 14 in the period before taking a 25-15 lead into the second quarter.

The lead grew to 18, 34-16, midway through the second stanza before Pitts scored the next nine points to pull the Gray Wolves within 11 before Lourdes went into the locker room trailing by 12, 39-27.

Two three-pointers to begin the third started a 14-0 spurt for the Wolverines to begin the second half as Michigan-Dearborn pulled away.  Trailing 59-40 to begin the fourth, Semler made a shot and Baylee Baldwin (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) followed with a triple to pull Lourdes within 14, but the hosts scored the next eight points to push the lead back to 22.  The Gray Wolves answered with eight straight of their own, but were unable to get closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Lourdes shot 33.3% from the floor and committed 19 turnovers while the Wolverines connected at a 41.4% clip while turning the ball over 18 times.  The Gray Wolves outrebounded Michigan-Dearborn 34-33, with Lauryn Gray (Piqua, Ohio/Piqua H.S.) leading the way with eight boards after tallying eight total over the team's first 10 games.

Mariah Taylor led Michigan-Dearborn (8-4, 2-2 WHAC) with 14 points while Rachel Bause grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Lourdes (3-8, 2-4) returns home on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.).  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
