Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Riding a three-match winning streak and coming off a five-match road trip, fourth-ranked Lourdes returns home to the Ebeid Rec Center on Wednesday evening to battle Lawrence Tech in the return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.
On the Air: Wednesday's match against Lawrence Tech will be broadcast live on BCSN as part of Buckeye Broadband. In addition, BCSN will re-air the match Thursday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 3:30 a.m. In addition, BCSN2 will show the match Thursday at 2 p.m., Friday at 8:30 a.m., and Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 143-61 (.701) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He has earned five conference Coach of the Year honors during his first seven seasons at Lourdes. He is the only head coach in program history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds an 8-0 all-time advantage against Lawrence Tech in a series that began Jan. 20, 2016. The Gray Wolves have swept all eight contests between the two schools, including a pair during the 2018 season. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Lawrence Tech in the Ebeid Rec Center and 5-0 all-time in home matches.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes began the weekend with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 sweep over 10th-ranked Clarke on the road Friday evening.
Evan Gebert had 14 kills while
Ricardo Gehrke added 11 more along with hitting .421.
Matheus Andrade registered a match-high 16 digs for the Gray Wolves. On Saturday, Lourdes earned a 25-15, 26-24, 25-17 sweep at Cardinal Stritch. Gebert put down 15 kills and hit .481 while Gehrke hit .533 with 10 kills and added nine digs.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have won three of their last four matches after a four-set victory at home against Olivet on Friday evening. Calvin Ooms leads Lawrence Tech with 133 kills and is hitting .269 while Gospel Sua has handed out 456 assists. Stefan Sretenovic has tallied a team-high 13 service aces. Defensively, Sretenovic leads Lawrence Tech with 163 digs while Joseph Balanda has tallied 46 blocks.
Trio Sweeps WHAC Honors: Matheus Andrade was named the WHAC and Defender of the Week for the second consecutive week while
Ricardo Gehrke and
Henrique Gehrke were named the WHAC Attacker and Setter of the Week respectively for the second time this season for their efforts against Clarke and Cardinal Stitch. Andrade averaged 3.50 digs per set for the Gray Wolves while
Ricardo Gehrke hit .471, averaging 3.50 kills and 2.33 digs per set.
Henrique Gehrke handed out 12.50 assists per set, leading an offense that hit .312 as a team.
Making Quick Work: Lourdes has yet to play a five-set match this season, having last played a contest that went the distance on April 17, 2018 in the first match of pool play at the NAIA National Invitational. The Gray Wolves have swept their way to victory in five of their seven wins this year.
Andrade Has Career High: Matheus Andrade recorded a career-high 16 digs for the Gray Wolves in the win at Clarke. The sophomore has registered double figures in digs in five of the nine contest this year. His previous career-high was 15 digs against McKendree on Feb. 1. Andrade is now averaging 2.94 digs per set, the eighth best mark in NAIA.
Quarterbacking the Offense: Henrique Gehrke ranks second in the NAIA handing out 11.53 assists per set this season. The Gray Wolves' sophomore setter has led Lourdes to a .301 hitting percentage as a team, a mark that ranks fifth nationally.
Putting Balls on the Floor: Lourdes ranks fourth as a team nationally averaging 13.06 kills per set.
Evan Gebert has led the Gray Wolves this year with 123 total kills, an average of 3.97 per stanza, a mark that ranks seventh in the NAIA.
Ricardo Gehrke also ranks 15th nationally with his 3.39 kills per set average.
Serving Up Aces: Jeff Lam has already tallied 16 service aces for the Gray Wolves in 2019, an average of 0.57 per set. The sophomore ranks 12th in the NAIA in the statistical category.
Playing Defense as Well: Lourdes has outdug all nine of its opponents thus far this season, holding a 314-239 overall edge in that statistical category. The Gray Wolves' 10.13 digs per set ranks eighth in the NAIA this season.
Milestone Watch: Evan Gebert surpassed 750 kills (756) with his 15-kill effort at Cardinal Stritch.
Brendan Brown is three kills shy of 500 for his career. He also surpassed the 250-block plateau at Clarke and enters the match Wednesday with 256 for his career.
Henrique Gehrke passed the 1,000-assist mark at Clarke and enters the week with 1,039 in his time at Lourdes.
This and That: Lourdes has not been swept in a match since Feb. 23, 2018 against UC Merced, a span of 25 matches ...
