The Lourdes women's basketball team fell 78-57 in its final regular season road tilt at No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech inside the Schaefer Center on Wednesday evening.
"I thought we played better in the second half," stated head coach
John Kenger following the matchup. "We had a much better effort during the second half."
The Gray Wolves got off to a slow start, trailing 26-11 after one period.
Indiana Tech (26-3, 17-2 WHAC) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead before
Christiana Jefferson (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame) scored six straight for the Gray Wolves to get Lourdes within 10-6. The Warriors rattled off 10 straight points from there before a
Jami Hardy (Perrysburg, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch) three-pointer ended the run.
Trailing 26-11 after one quarter, Lourdes responded in the second period, being edged in the scoring column by a mere 14-13 margin.
Sydney Miller (Huntsville, Ohio/Indian Lake) opened the scoring in the second quarter by hitting a three-pointer off a Hardy assist to cut the gap to 26-14 with 8:05 left in the first half.
The Warriors stretched their lead to as many as 22 points, but
Sara Semler (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) hit a three-pointer and a jumper from Jefferson pulled Lourdes within 40-24 at the intermission.
The Gray Wolves were able to get the lead down to 49-39 with 5:26 left in the third quarter following a steal and fastbreak layup from
Ramiah Henry (Toledo, Ohio/Waite), but the hosts took control once again and held a 63-43 advantage entering the final quarter of play.
Lourdes struggled to get any closer in the fourth quarter as Indiana Tech went on to claim the 78-57 victory.
Henry led Lourdes with a 17-point effort, while Jefferson added 12 points.
Hunter Kershaw (Columbus, Ohio/Westland) pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
Kendall Knapke led the way for Indiana Tech, scoring 27 points.
The Gray Wolves finished 24-of-67 (35.8%) from the field, while hitting seven three-point field goals. The Warriors connected on 31-of-51 (60.8%) shots and hit nine three-pointers in the victory.
Lourdes won the battle on the boards, edging Indiana Tech by a 34-32 margin.
Lourdes (10-18, 5-14 WHAC) returns to action and wraps up the regular season on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon as it hosts Madonna at 1 p.m.
