The Lourdes women's lacrosse team saw its 2019 home opener spoiled at the hands of Walsh as it was upended 22-3 on a chilly Thursday evening.
"We knew this game was going to be a tough game heading into it," stated head coach
Alyssa Shaver following the contest. "We scheduled it to prepare ourselves for some tough conference games ahead. We had some good moments tonight and learned a lot. We need to build on those positives and get ready for Saturday."
It took less than 90 seconds for Walsh to find the back of the net twice, giving the visitors an early 2-0 lead.
Ashley Hunt (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) scored her fourth goal of the young season to give the Gray Wolves life and cut the lead to 2-1 with 1:54 gone in the contest.
From there, the Cavaliers scored 13 straight goals, taking a commanding 15-1 lead late in the first half.
Tiara Reed (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) scored her team-leading 12
th goal of the season with just 38 seconds left in the first half to give Lourdes some momentum heading into the intermission.
Reed picked up where she left off in the first half, scoring the first goal of the second half in the 34
th minute of play to help Lourdes climb within 15-3.
The Gray Wolf defense was far more stout in the second stanza, but Walsh scored the final seven goals of the matchup to seal the 22-3 victory.
Reed fired off a team-high six shots, while freshman goalkeeper
Jacque Pappadakes (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) grabbed two ground balls and stopped four Cavalier shots.
Lourdes returns to Wildcat Stadium on Saturday afternoon when it welcomes Marian to Sylvania for a 4 p.m. matchup.
