Lourdes finished its weekend action in the Lindenwood Invitational on Sunday afternoon with a 25-20, 22-25, 35-33, 25-13 victory over Quincy inside of Hyland Arena in Saint Charles, Mo.

"The team as a whole played very sound volleyball today," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We faced a bigger block than we have seen and battled well."

The Gray Wolves hit .320 for the match while holding the NCAA Division II Hawks to a .159 hitting mark.

Lourdes fell behind early in the opening set and trailed until the midway mark when an 8-0 run off the serve of
Ricardo Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) put the Gray Wolves in front 17-13 on the way to the victory. Lourdes hit .429 with 15 kills in the set.

Quincy (4-6) evened the match, winning set two which featured 13 ties. The Hawks broke the final stalemate at 21-21 with three consecutive points to take the lead for good.

The third set was a marathon. Lourdes scored the first five points before Quincy responded, tying things up at 11. The Hawks then built a lead of their own, 21-17, before the Gray Wolves fought back with five straight points, eventually forcing the set into extra points. Lourdes needed nine set points before finally pulling out the win.

The Gray Wolves cruised in the fourth set, hitting .476 while forcing Quincy into 13 attack errors and a -.194 hitting percentage. Lourdes built an early 10-3 lead and went on a late 7-0 run to secure the victory.

Ricardo Gehrke led Lourdes with 16 kills and hit .481 while adding 10 digs for a double-double.Â
Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) and
Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) added 14 kills each while
Henrique Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) handed out 51 assists while posting a team-high 11 digs.

"Ricardo had a great weekend for us," Reitz added. "He played very well against some very tough opponents and I'm very pleased with his play."

Matheus Andrade (Coronel Fabriciano, Brazil/Alberto Giovanni H.S.) tallied 10 digs for the Gray Wolves while
Lance Blough (Hooversville, Pa./Shade-Central City H.S.) tallied five blocks in addition to putting down seven kills and hitting .700 for the match.

Omari Wheeler led Quincy with 16 kills while Stevie Bresser added 12 kills and a team-high 10 digs.

Lourdes (5-2) remains on the road Friday evening, traveling to Dubuque, Iowa to face Clarke. The opening serve is set for 8 p.m. EST inside the Kehl Center.
