The Gray Wolf men's basketball team picked up their second consecutive victory on Wednesday evening after defeating Concordia 93-82 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
"Tonight wasn't necessarily our best game of the season," said head coach
Josh Gibson following to victory. "With that said, good teams find ways to win. We were able to make a few more plays then they were and come out on top."
With the victory, Lourdes punched its ticket to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
A slow start saw the two teams locked at 8-8 early on in the first half, but
Deuce Martin (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview) went on a personal 5-0 run to help Lourdes take a 13-8 lead with 13:53 left in the first half.
The Cardinals (7-21, 5-13 WHAC) fought back, tying the game at 13-all, but Martin continued to give the Gray Wolves life, hitting a layup for his third straight bucket.
After the Cardinals pulled within 33-32,
Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) hit 3-of-4 free throws to push the lead to 36-32.
The Gray Wolves would score seven of the final 13 points to close the half to take a 43-38 lead at the intermission.
After Concordia scored the opening bucket of the second half, Lourdes went on a quick 7-0 run capped by a layup from
Brett Lauf (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) to push the lead to 50-40 with 18:29 left in the contest.
The teams went back-and-forth over the next 10 minutes, but
Desmond Frazier (Ocala, Fla./Dunnellon) found Martin for another triple with 9:40 remaining in the half, pushing Lourdes' lead to 66-58 and forcing a Cardinal timeout.
Concordia continued to battle, getting as close as 70-65, but Lourdes held the Cardinals off while hitting 9-of-10 free throws in the final 1:30 of the contest to ice the 93-82 victory.
Snow led the way offensively for Lourdes, netting 25 points and adding eight rebounds and six assists. Martin and
Kadeim Jones (Dayton, Ohio/Marshall) each added 18 points, while Lauf and
McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield Heights) each chipped in 12 points.
Lourdes finished 34-of-63 (54.0%) from the field, including 8-of-23 (34.8%) from beyond the arc. Concordia hit 28-of-57 (49.1%) shots, including 11-of-30 (36.7%) from three-point range.
The Gray Wolves (18-9, 9-8 WHAC) return to action on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. and complete their three-game homestand as they host Northwestern Ohio inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
