Men’s Basketball Suffers 99-90 Double Overtime Setback against UNOH

It took two overtimes, but the Northwestern Ohio men's basketball team tripped up Lourdes 99-90 on Saturday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

Kadeim Jones (Dayton, Ohio/Marshall) nailed a three-pointer on the opening Gray Wolf possession, but UNOH answered with a 9-1 run to take an early 9-4 lead. Brett Lauf (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) found Bryce McComb (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton) for a corner three-pointer to stop the run and get Lourdes within 9-7 with 14:34 left in the first half.

After UNOH (9-19, 5-13 WHAC) hit a three-pointer to stretch its lead to 20-12 and force a Lourdes timeout, the Gray Wolves used a 10-1 run to take a 22-21 lead and force a UNOH timeout with 8:21 left in the first half.

The Gray Wolf run continued out of the timeout as it posted a 7-1 spurt capped by an emphatic alley-oop dunk from Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) to McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield Heights) to force another Racer timeout with Lourdes leading 29-22 at the 5:27 mark of the first half.

Jones scored a layup from the baseline to end the half and give Lourdes a 35-33 lead at the intermission.

Over the course of the first 11 minutes of the second half, neither team could muster more than a three-point lead.

Back-to-back steal and assists from Lauf ended that streak with 7:43 left in the contest as Jones and McComb scored fast break layups following the steals to give the Gray Wolves a 58-54 lead.

With Lourdes holding a late 70-67 lead, UNOH nailed a three-pointer with 25.3 seconds left to knot the game at 70-70 and force the fifth overtime contest of the season for both the Gray Wolves and UNOH.

UNOH was able to push its lead to as many as three points in the first overtime period, but Snow nailed a pair of free throws with 1.4 seconds left to force the second overtime period.

In the second overtime period, the Racers outscored Lourdes 18-9 to seal the 99-90 victory.

Jones led the way for Lourdes, netting 24 points. White added a career-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Lauf and McComb added 13 and 10 points, respectively, while Snow posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Lourdes finished 35-of-81 (43.2%) from the field, hitting 6-of-31 (19.4%) three-pointers. UNOH hit 36-of-83 (43.4%) shots, including 8-of-20 (40.0%) from three-point range.
