The Gray Wolf women's lacrosse team concluded its southeastern road trip with a 29-5 setback against No. 1-ranked SCAD-Savannah on Sunday morning.
"I think we played pretty well today," said head coach
Alyssa Shaver following the contest. "They are ranked No. 1 for a reason but I'm proud of the way we fought and competed."
Lourdes held the early lead in the contest, jumping out to a 2-1 lead after the hosts scored the first goal of the game.
Bella D'Arcy (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) found
Hannah Merrick (South Lyon, Mich./East\) for the Gray Wolves opening goal, before
Tiara Reed (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) followed that goal with her first of the afternoon to give Lourdes an early 2-1 lead with 26:47 left in the first half.
After the Bees (4-1 overall) scored twice more to retake the lead, Reed struck again, knotting the contest at 3-3 with 25:43 left in half.
The hosts used an 18-0 run to close out the first half and take a 21-3 lead into the intermission.
SCAD-Savannah opened the second half with a quick goal, but Reed delivered again for Lourdes to keep the score within 22-4.
Reed would find the back of the net once more for Lourdes, but the Bees were able to hold on to claim the 29-5 victory.
Reed led the way for Lourdes with four goals and six draw controls, while
Lexi Hunt (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) picked up a team-high three ground balls.
Lourdes (3-6 overall) is back in action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Rochester (Mich.) and kicks off WHAC play at 3 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
