Ammons Walk-Off Home Run, Pitching Leads Baseball in Doubleheader Sweep Over Rochester (Mich.)

Brad Ammons (Holland, Ohio/Springfield) hit a two RBI walk-off home run and Lourdes got a solid pitching effort in game two as the Gray Wolves swept Rochester (Mich.) 10-9, 9-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

"I'm very proud of the relentless effort we gave in our comeback in game one," head coach Jeremy Snow stated following the sweep. "You get 27 outs for a reason and it's important to play until the end. There were many big moments, but obviously the walkoff home run was huge for Brad and the team."

Trailing 9-6 heading into the bottom half of the ninth inning in the first contest, Lourdes found itself with a runner on first and two outs.

George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Central) doubled off the left field fence to score the runner on first before a Cameron Gallo (Mason, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) single brought Pastor home, setting up Ammons for the two-run bomb.

Ammons' first career home run propelled the Gray Wolves to the 10-9 victory.

Lourdes held a 3-2 lead through three innings, but Rochester (4-23, 1-5 WHAC) scored four in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead.

A three RBI double from Pastor in the fifth inning evened the score at 6-6, but the Warriors regained the lead over the next three innings.

Pastor finished the game 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored to pace the offense. Ammons was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Austin Oulds (Chatham, Ont./Chatham Kent) earned the victory on the mound in the first game. Braxton McKart (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) went six innings and fanned eight batters in the contest.

The Gray Wolves wasted no time taking the lead in the second contest as Gallo singled to plate a run and give Lourdes an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Lourdes added five more runs over the next five innings to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Rochester was able to get a pair back in the top of the seventh inning, cutting their deficit to 6-2.

A two-RBI double from Ammons and an RBI single from Noah Childress (Toledo, Ohio/Start) in the bottom of the eighth added three insurance runs as Lourdes went on to claim the 9-2 victory.

"Kolby had a great performance for us in the second game," Snow continued. He's been throwing strikes all season and has had some unfortunate luck. Today we were able to give him some early run support and allow him to cruise. A couple of great defensive plays helped us secure the sweep and get back on track after a slow start in the conference. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the weekend."

Ammons and Childress each recorded three hits to lead the offense while Pastor, Gallo and Michael Davis (Whittier, Cal./California) each added a pair of hits.

Kolby Rogge (Toledo, Ohio/Springfield) earned his first victory of the season on the mound, going seven innings and striking out three batters.

Lourdes (9-12, 3-5 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader at Cleary.
