Lourdes closed out the 2019 regular season on Saturday morning, suffering a 16-6 setback to fourth-ranked Indiana Tech on Senior Day at Wildcat Stadium.
Prior to the game, which was played in a driving rainstorm, Lourdes honored its three seniors,
Brianna Budd (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy),
Brandy Lowery (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.), and
Anna Zofchak (North Canton, Ohio/North Canton H.S.).
"The seniors will truly be missed," head coach
Alyssa Shaver said afterwards. "They have been leaders on our team the last couple of seasons."
Indiana Tech got off to a fast start, scoring the game's first seven goals before
Brianna Nantz (Brighton, Mich./Brighton H.S.) put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard with 10:29 to play before halftime after receiving a feed from
Ashley Hunt (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May H.S.).
The Warriors added three more goals in the first half before
Claire Austin (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston H.S.) found the back of the cage just before intermission to make it a 10-2 game.
Bella D'Arcy (Hartland, Mich./Hartland H.S.) put Lourdes on the scoreboard first in the second half, scoring just 1:09 into the stanza. Following a pair of Indiana Tech goals, D'Arcy scored again to make it a 12-4 game with just over 19 minutes to play.
Indiana Tech (12-2, 9-0 WHAC) scored three more times before
Hannah Merrick (South Lyon, Mich./East H.S.) scored her team-leading 39
th goal of the year for the Gray Wolves. D'Arcy tallied one final goal for Lourdes before the Warriors scored the final marker.
"I think we played really hard today," Shaver added. "It's tough playing in the weather that we had today. I am proud with how we finished the regular season."
The Warriors outshot Lourdes 30-29, and held a 25-20 edge on goal.
Jacque Pappadakes (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River H.S.) made nine saves in net for the Gray Wolves while Sydney Davis stopped 14 shots for Indiana Tech.
Jennifer Banks led Indiana Tech with seven goals on the day.
Indiana Tech also held a 22-19 edge in ground balls while Lourdes won 15 of 23 draw controls. Merrick had eight draw controls for the Gray Wolves while
Emiliana Taylor (Granger, Ind./Saint Joseph H.S.) picked up four ground balls.
Lourdes (8-10, 5-3) will return to action on Tuesday for the first round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament. The Gray Wolves' opponent and location for the game will be announced following the conclusion of the regular season by the league office.
