The Lourdes University baseball team suffered a 6-4 setback prior to falling to Aquinas 8-2 in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference twinbill in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Monday afternoon.

In game one, Lourdes found itself with a comfortable 4-0 lead following a solid offensive outing in the second inning.

Colin Gottschalk (Walled Lake, Mich./Central) got the scoring started in the inning, doubling to left center to plate the opening run of the contest.

A pair of back-to-back bases loaded walks for
Braden Halford (Port Hope, Ont./Saint Mary's) and
Michael Davis (Whittier, Calif./Whittier) scored two more runs for the Gray Wolves to push the lead to 3-0.

The scoring outburst ended as
Sedrick Gonzalez (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield) took advantage of a wild pitch and crossed home plate to extend the lead to 4-0.

Aquinas (11-27, 6-12 WHAC) was able to get back in the contest in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Saints would then knot the score at 4-4 in the bottom half of the sixth frame.

Lourdes would threaten with runners, but the Saints added a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to gain a 6-4 advantage. Aquinas would close out the game with four K's over the final six outs to seal the victory.

Joey Oehlers (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford) had a pair of hits to lead the Gray Wolf offense in game one.
Zach Brown (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) led the pitching staff with four strikeouts on the bump.

In the second contest, Aquinas scored a run in the first inning before the Gray Wolf defense held the hosts scoreless through the next three innings.

Aquinas would break through, scoring seven runs over the course of the fifth and sixth innings to take an 8-0 lead.

Lourdes began to chip away at the lead in the top of the seventh inning as Gottschalk hit a two-RBI homerun over the left field fence to cut the lead to 8-2. Lourdes wouldn't get any closer as Aquinas held on for the 8-2 game two victory.

Gottschalk and Gonzalez led the way with a hit each offensively, while Gottschalk added a pair of RBI and a run.

Lourdes (14-19, 8-8 WHAC) has a short turnaround and will return to action at Mercy Field with the first pitch of a twinbill against No. 21-ranked Indiana Tech scheduled for 1 p.m.
