Lourdes registered its first sweep and first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season on Friday evening, as the Gray Wolves defeated Michigan-Dearborn 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"I thought we played a sound volleyball match tonight, but we still left some points on the court," head coach
Greg Reitz said after the match. "We were sound defensively both with our block and in the back row while we hit more efficiently than we have been in recent matches."

The Gray Wolves posted a .206 hitting percentage for the night, led by
Emily Drenth's (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South H.S.) 11 kills and .281 clip.Â
Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) added 10 kills for Lourdes in the win.

Defensively,
Elise Sanford (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) had five blocks as the Gray Wolves outblocked Michigan-Dearborn 8-5 for the night.Â
Yasmin Assis (Salto, Brazil/Antonio Alves Aranha H.S.) had a match-high 13 digs to go along with 27 assists while
Allie Hale (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) added 12 digs.

Trailing 11-9 in the opening set, the Gray Wolves scored the next eight points to take control behind the serve of Assis. Lourdes raced out to a 10-3 lead in the second set, and after the Wolverines closed to within two, put the set away with five of their 10 service aces in the stanza. The Gray Wolves completed the sweep with four straight points to pull in front 22-17, before closing out the match.

Michigan-Dearborn (2-10, 1-2 WHAC) hit just .030 for the night, with Gina Giacomini leading the way with nine kills. Mallory Lynch had 13 digs for the Wolverines.

Lourdes (4-6, 1-2) will return to the court on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.). First serve is set for 1 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
