Lourdes wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Monday evening, suffering a 2-0 setback to Kalamazoo at MacKenzie Field in Kalamazoo, Mich.

"We competed well and had some really good stretches tonight," head coach Matt Johnson said afterwards.  "It can be a cruel and frustrating game at times when the ball is not going in the net, but we feel we are moving in the right direction in terms of our play."
 
The Hornets jumped on the scoreboard quickly, as Aidan Hurley scored just 1:44 into the contest with Tony Yazbeck drawing the assist.
 
Kalamazoo (6-1-1) remained in front 1-0 at intermission despite Lourdes holding a 10-6 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes, including a 5-2 edge on goal in the first half.
 
With just under 25 minutes to play in regulation, Nick Kraeuter doubled the Kalamazoo advantage when he converted a penalty kick with what proved to be the final goal of the match.

"Tonight Kalamazoo created a really well-worked goal early on and benefitted from a fortuitous bounce in the second half and that was the difference in the game," Johnson added.  "We need to be better in those critical moments if we want results to swing in our favor."
 
The Gray Wolves finished the match with a 16-15 edge in shots, including a 9-7 mark on goal.  Kalamazoo goalkeeper Sean Ellis made nine saves to earn the shutout victory while Garrett Baxley (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood H.S.) made five stops for Lourdes.  Each team had six corner kick opportunities in the match.
 
Lourdes (2-5) will open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Michigan-Dearborn.  Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
