Lourdes saw its four-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves suffered a 25-18, 25-14, 25-20 setback to Findlay at Croy Gymnasium in Findlay, Ohio to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.
"We didn't serve well enough to pressure their offense and when we did, our defense was a little off," head coach
Greg Reitz said following the match. "We struggled to find our rhythm today. We need to regroup and train to be better in our next match."
An early 6-1 run by the Oilers in the opening set put the hosts in front for good, 10-4, as Lourdes never led in the set. Findlay hit .353 with 15 kills while limiting the Gray Wolves to just seven kills.
Findlay led wire-to-wire in set two as well, racing out to an 8-2 advantage while closing the set with the final seven points. Lourdes hit -.067 in the stanza, committing eight attack errors.
In the third, the set was tied eight times, the latest at 13-13, before Findlay scored three consecutive points to forge in front for good. The Oilers had 18 kills and hit .441 in the final set to complete the sweep.
Allie Hale (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) and
Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) led Lourdes with seven kills as the Gray Wolves hit just .057 on the afternoon. Defensively, Hale and
Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) each had nine digs.
Rylie Pattison led Findlay (5-9) with 13 kills as the Oilers hit .337 for the match. Olivia Morrison had a match-high 12 digs for the hosts.
Lourdes (7-7) returns home on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Rochester (Mich.). First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
