Lourdes was within one of 13
th-ranked Indiana Tech early in the fourth quarter, but was unable to finish the upset on Saturday afternoon, as the Warriors defeated the Gray Wolves 66-56 inside of Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"The team came out with a lot of energy, fought hard, and I loved seeing the team rally behind one another today," head coach
John Kenger said after the game.

The Gray Wolves started fast, taking an early 14-9 lead midway through the opening quarter. Lourdes maintained their advantage throughout the first period, and led by as many as seven, before finishing the first 10 minutes leading 24-20.

Indiana Tech limited Lourdes to just one field goal in the second stanza, as the Gray Wolves managed just three points in the quarter. The Warriors held Lourdes scoreless for the final 4:51 of the period and without a field goal for the final 9:15, using a 16-1 run to build a 36-27 halftime advantage.

The Warriors pushed the lead to 13, 44-31, with 3:40 to play in the third before Lourdes began its comeback. A layup by
Mary Liedel (Erie, Mich./Mason H.S.) and back-to-back three-pointers by
Erica Cary (Central City, Ky./Muhlenberg County H.S.) pulled the Gray Wolves to within five, a deficit they would take to the final quarter.

A basket by
Leah Goodwin (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg H.S.) followed by a bucket from
Mirandia Green (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) to start the fourth made it a one-point game, early in the fourth. With the Gray Wolves within one, 48-47, with 8:11 to play, Indiana Tech responded with an 8-0 run.

A basket by
Mare West (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) at the 2:50 mark made it 58-53, put Lourdes could not get any closer down the stretch as the Warriors made six free throws in the final minute to secure the win.

Cary led Lourdes with 12 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting while Liedel added 11 more. The Gray Wolves shot just 29.7% from the floor for the game, but committed just 12 turnovers to stay close. Lourdes also held a 46-38 rebounding advantage, with
Hunter Kershaw (Columbus, Ohio/Westland H.S.) pulling down nine boards.

Kyra Whitaker led Indiana Tech (16-4, 10-1 WHAC) with 21 points, making 10-of-10 from the free throw line, while Erika Foy added 14 points off the bench.

Lourdes (4-15, 3-9) returns to the road for four of its next five games, beginning Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Livonia, Mich. to face Madonna. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. inside The Activities Center.
