Gray Wolves Earn First Win Ever Against Aquinas

Lourdes won its third consecutive game for just the third time in program history on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves defeated Aquinas 48-46 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

In addition to tying the longest winning streak all-time at Lourdes, the Gray Wolves also defeated Aquinas for the first time in 18 tries.

"I am so proud of this team," head coach John Kenger said after the game.  "Aquinas is such a good team and even after our miscues early in the third quarter, we never gave up.  We came together to get the win and I could not be happier for them."

Mirandia Green (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) had a double-double, 13 points and 11 rebounds, while handing out four assists to lead the Gray Wolves.  She was 6-of-9 from the floor.

The two schools started slowly, combining for just 5-of-36 from the floor in the opening quarter as Aquinas led just 7-6 after 10 minutes.  The Saints led by as many as four in the before taking a 22-19 lead into the locker room.

The Aquinas lead grew to seven, 30-23, with 7:43 to play in the third before the Gray Wolves scored seven straight points to tie the game.  Lourdes was unable to take the lead in the stanza though, and entered the fourth period trailing 34-31.

Baylee Baldwin's (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) three-pointer at the 8:13 mark of the fourth put Lourdes in the lead and Green followed with a basket and the Gray Wolves would not relinquish the advantage the rest of the way.

The lead grew to four, 47-43, with a basket inside by Sirena Pitts (Orlando, Fla./Ocoee H.S.) with 20.3 seconds to play, and despite a late triple from the Saints, the Gray Wolves held on for the victory.

Erica Cary (Central City, Ky./Muhlenberg County H.S.) came off the bench with eight points while Baldwin and Pitts tallied seven each.

Lourdes shot just 29.8% from the floor, which was higher than Aquinas' 27.9% shooting.

Keeley Hinton led Aquinas (14-9, 10-4 WHAC) with 12 points while Camaryia Williams grabbed 16 rebounds and had six steals.

Lourdes (7-15, 5-9) will look for its school-record fourth straight win on Thursday evening, as the Gray Wolves step out of league play to face Great Lakes Christian.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside of the Doty Center in Lansing, Mich.
