Lourdes Edged in Overtime by Ohio Christian

A free throw by Erica Cary (Central City, Ky./Muhlenberg County H.S.) with 5.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter forced overtime, but Lourdes was unable to pull out a victory in the extra session, falling to Ohio Christian 76-67 on Saturday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
 
Cary and Mary Liedel (Erie, Mich./Mason H.S.) both registered double-doubles for the Gray Wolves in the setback.  Cary had 11 points and 10 rebounds while Liedel, playing her first regular season game at Lourdes, tallied 15 points and 16 boards.
 
Lourdes jumped in front early, building a 15-8 lead late in the opening period.  The Trailblazers responded with a 14-3 run that carried into the second quarter to pull in front and Ohio Christian held a 33-30 lead at halftime.
 
The Gray Wolves came out of the locker room and held Ohio Christian to just 20% shooting in the third period, and used an 11-0 run to push back in front.  Lourdes led by as many as 13 in the third before taking a 52-41 advantage into the final stanza.
 
The Trailblazers battled back with another run, this time a 16-3 spurt to take the lead 61-57 with three minutes to play.  Lauryn Gray (Piqua, Ohio/Piqua H.S.) answered with a lay-up before Mirandia Green (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) made a three-pointer, her only basket of the game, with 29.9 seconds to play, putting Lourdes back in front by a point.
 
Staci Pertuset responded with a jumper to put the visitors on top by one with 17.6 seconds to play before Cary grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled with 5.4 seconds remaining.  She made the first of two free throws, tying the game at 63.
 
Cary scored the opening basket of the extra session to put the Gray Wolves on top early, but Ohio Christian scored the next 10 points to take control and earn the road win.
 
Baylee Baldwin (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) added 12 points while Logan Ingram (Mount Pleasant, Mich./Mount Pleasant H.S.) added 11 points in a reserve role as the Lourdes bench accounted for 38 points on the day.
 
Lourdes finished the game shooting just 30.1% from the floor and 57.1% from the free throw line while committing 28 turnovers.  The Gray Wolves did hold a 62-49 advantage on the glass, including a 20-12 offensive rebounding edge.
 
Rachel Gillum led Ohio Christian (11-5) with 23 points and 14 rebounds while Pertuset scored a game-high 25 points.  Carolane Cox added 11 points and 10 boards for the Trailblazers.
 
Lourdes (3-12) remains home on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, hosting the University of Northwestern Ohio.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
