Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Gray Wolves Fall at Home to Rochester Saturday Afternoon

Lourdes began its final regular season homestand of the season on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 75-61 decision to Rochester (Mich.) inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"When you look at the stats it appears pretty even, but they shot the ball much better from three," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "We're not shooting the ball well right now and the toughness is not there.  They out-toughed us, bumping us off our cuts."

The Gray Wolves started quick, building a 13-5 lead just six minutes into the contest.  The lead grew to nine, 27-18, with 7:26 to play before intermission before Rochester went on a 14-2 run over the next three minutes to pull in front 32-29.  The lead went back-and-forth the remainder of the stanza before two free throws in the final seconds gave Lourdes a 35-34 lead at the break.

The Warriors opened the second half scoring the first eight points, taking a lead they would not relinquish.  The lead grew to nine, before Lourdes battled back to within four, 46-42, with 12 minutes remaining.  Again Rochester answered, and pushed its advantage to 13, 66-53, with three minutes to play.  The Gray Wolves scored the next six points to make it a seven-point deficit, but the Warriors stopped the run with a triple, one of 11 in the game, to secure the win.

Kenny Coleman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) led Lourdes with 15 points while Julian Egbo (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.) added 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting.  Egbo also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

The Gray Wolves shot 46.9% from the floor but made just 2-of-11 (18.2%) from beyond the arc and turned the ball over 13 times.  Rochester shot 42.6% from the field but was 44% (11-of-25) from three-point range and committed just seven miscues.

Armand Cartwright led Rochester (18-9, 11-7 WHAC) with 32 points, including 11-of-11 from the free throw line and five three-pointers, while Cap Wilson added 17 points.  Peter Agba had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

"Cartwright is a premier player who can get his own shot," Hopson added.

Lourdes (19-9, 12-6) will look to snap a three-game losing streak in the regular season home finale on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves host Lawrence Tech.  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center with Senior Night activities taking place prior to the game.
