Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: After 12 days off from action, Lourdes returns to the court this week playing five matches in three days. Â The fourth-ranked Gray Wolves travel to No. 7 Saint Xavier on Thursday night to begin the week. Â Lourdes then heads to the Judson Early Bird Tournament, battling Lincoln and Clarke on Friday before facing third-ranked Missouri Baptist and the host Eagles on Saturday.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his ninth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 166-64 (.722) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â He has earned six conference Coach of the Year honors during his first eight seasons at Lourdes, including the first WHAC Coach of the Year last year. Â He is the only head coach in program history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 16-0 all-time against Saint Xavier in a series that began Jan. 20, 2012. Â Last season the Gray Wolves posted a 3-0 victory over the Cougars in the Ebeid Rec Center. Â Lourdes is 8-0 against Saint Xavier in Chicago, Ill. Â Lourdes and Lincoln are meeting for the first time in program history. Â Clarke holds a 7-4 series edge against the Gray Wolves dating back to Feb. 17, 2012. Â The Gray Wolves won last year's meeting, 3-0, in Dubuque, Iowa. Â Missouri Baptist is 8-0 against Lourdes in a series that began March 2, 2013. Â The two schools have not met since 2018 when the Spartans won in three sets in the Ebeid Rec Center and in four sets at the NAIA National Invitational. Â Lourdes is 3-0 all-time against Judson going back to Feb. 10, 2018. Â The Gray Wolves won the first meeting this season in four sets on Jan. 17 in Lebanon, Tenn., and are making their first trip ever to Elgin, Ill.
Wrapping Up Last Week (or Two Weeks Ago): The Gray Wolves opened WHAC play on Jan. 22 with a 25-11, 25-11, 25-18 win over Lawrence Tech. Â
Ricardo Gehrke had 12 kills and hit .800 to lead Lourdes. Â The Gray Wolves downed Indiana Tech 25-20, 25-17, 25-17 on Jan. 25 behind 13 kills from
Jeff Lam in the road sweep.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Cougars remain unbeaten having swept Saint Ambrose on Tuesday night. Â Grant Ooms has a team-leading 84 kills, 55 digs, and is hitting .205 while Aaron Kummer has handed out 167 assists. Â Â
Scouting Lincoln: The Lynx are winless this season after falling in three sets at Trinity Christian on Jan. 30. Â Jonathan Lindner has tallied a team-high 35 kills while Miguel Garcia has 108 assists. Â Trenton Kielion has registered 38 digs.
Scouting Clarke: The Pride enter the tournament having dropped two straight matches after falling in three sets to Graceland last Saturday. Â Nick Ramos has a team-high 76 kills and is hitting .275 while Mike Jenkins has handed out 169 assists. Â Damien Higashi has tallied a team-high 38 digs.
Scouting Missouri Baptist: The Spartans enter the tournament having won nine straight matches after sweeping Missouri Valley on Tuesday night. Â Luka Cajic has a team-high 168 kills and is hitting .293 while Jason Harman has handed out 427 assists. Â Skyler Capilonch leads the defense with 89 digs.
Scouting Judson: The Eagles have won three matches in a row after beating Viterbo in four sets on Tuesday. Â Judson is at Cardinal Stritch on Wednesday before hosting the tournament. Â Nakuluai Morando leads the Eagles with 115 kills while Tom Kurzynski has 341 assists. Â Defensively, Noah McConville leads Judson with 147 digs.
Lam Earns WHAC Award: Jeff Lam was named the WHAC Attacker of the Week on Jan. 27 after averaging 4.00 kills per set while hitting .390 in the victories over Lawrence Tech and Indiana Tech to open conference play.
Gebert Holds School Records: Evan Gebert became the school's career record holder for both kills and service aces earlier this season. Â Gebert has 1,009 career kills and 75 service aces.
Tops in NAIA: As a team, Lourdes ranks second in the NAIA averaging 12.95 assists per set as well as hitting .337 as a team. Â The Gray Wolves are third nationally with 13.74 kills per set. Â Individually,
Jeff Lam is the nation's leader tallying 0.89 service aces per stanza, while
Henrique Gehrke is tops in the country with 11.65 assists per set.
Record Watch: Henrique Gehrke currently ranks second all-time with 1,950 assists. Â The junior setter is 336 assists behind school record holder, and current assistant coach
Ryan Ferkel (2014-2017), who had 2,282 helpers.
This and That: Lourdes is 29-50 all-time against ranked opponents after posting a 7-2 mark in such matches in 2019 ... the Gray Wolves enter the week having won 16 consecutive sets ... the 6-0 start matches the best in program history with the 2014 team, which won one of the six contests via forfeit ...
Max Petuhov has been involved in 19 of the team's 33 blocks.
