Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes heads to Iowa over spring break, playing three matches, including two against nationally-ranked foes. The Gray Wolves face top-ranked Grand View on Monday, followed by matches against No. 3 Park and at Mount Mercy.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his ninth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 176-66 (.727) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He has earned six conference Coach of the Year honors during his first eight seasons at Lourdes, including the first WHAC Coach of the Year last year. He is the only head coach in program history.
Series Notes: Grand View holds a 5-3 series advantage against Lourdes dating back to March 3, 2012. The Gray Wolves won the last meeting in Des Moines, Iowa during the 2018 season in four sets. Grand View is 2-1 against Lourdes in Des Moines. Park is 6-1 against Lourdes in a series that began March 2, 2012. The two schools have not met since 2017, when the Pirates won a pair of meetings, one in four sets the other in three. Lourdes won the only previous meeting against Mount Mercy in five sets on Jan. 27, 2018 in Elgin, Ill.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes swept Lawrence Tech on Wednesday in WHAC play on the road.
Jeff Lam hit .444 with a team-high 10 kills and nine digs in the win. The Gray Wolves needed five sets to down Saint Ambrose to open the Gray Wolf Invitational on Friday.
Evan Gebert had 21 kills and 11 digs while
Ricardo Gehrke had 15 kills and 16 digs. Friday evening Lourdes swept Saint Andrews behind eight kills from Lam and 12 digs from
Guga Heidrich. The Gray Wolves closed the tournament on Saturday with a three-set win over Robert Morris (Ill.).

Scouting Grand View: The Vikings have won 18 straight matches after downing Saint Xavier in straight sets last Saturday. Felix Chapman leads Grand View with 307 kills and is hitting .376 while Eli Irizarry has handed out 427 assists. Chapman also leads the team in service aces with 35. Defensively, Dalton Dencklau has tallied a team-leading 92 digs. At the net, Oscar Manana has registered a team-leading 58 blocks.
Scouting Park: The Pirates remained unbeaten on the 2020 season after defeating Dordt in four sets on Saturday. Hiago Crins leads the offense with 130 kills and is hitting .372 while Luciano Bucci has handed out 422 assists. Gabriel Soares has tallied 12 service aces. Defensively, Leandro Lima has registered 105 digs while Crins has a team-high 47 blocks.
Scouting Mount Mercy: The Mustangs have won nine straight matches after downing Culver-Stockton in straight sets on Tuesday night. Mount Mercy travels to Graceland on Friday and Missouri Valley on Saturday before hosting Lourdes. Julian Armendano leads the team with 214 kills and is hitting .234. Ben Ruggles has handed out 591 assists and Evan Gasskill has 15 service aces. Defensively, Tiago Almeida leads the team with 126 digs while Ben Steffen has 86 blocks.
Best Start in Program History: Lourdes has posted its best 18-match start in program history with its 16-2 record to begin the season. The Gray Wolves previous best mark was 15-3 during the 2019 season after Lourdes dropped its 18th match of the year.
Call it the Gehrke Award: Henrique Gehrke earned his fourth straight WHAC Setter of the Week award following last week's four matches. The junior averaged 11.33 assists per set and 2.44 digs per set while adding three blocks and three service aces over nine sets. Gehrke also collected his second straight NAIA National Setter of the Week honor for his efforts last week. The junior setter has now earned the national honor six times in his career.
Near the Tops in NAIA: As a team, Lourdes ranks second in the NAIA averaging 13.82 kills per set and is third with 12.94 assists per set. The Gray Wolves are also third in digs at 11.73 per set while ranking fifth with a .317 team hitting percentage.
Individual National Rankings: Individually,
Henrique Gehrke ranks third in the NAIA handing out 11.33 assists per set.
Fred Miller is fifth with a .441 hitting percentage while
Jeff Lam's 0.63 service aces per set rank sixth.
Harrison McBean is also sixth with a .434 hitting percentage while
Guga Heidrich is seventh in digs per set at 3.13.
Gebert Holds School Records: Evan Gebert became the school's career record holder for both kills and service aces earlier this season. Gebert enters the week with 1,140 career kills and 85 service aces.
Setting the Record: Henrique Gehrke set the new school record for career assists during the Gray Wolf Invitational and now has 2,341 all-time. The junior setter passed current assistant coach
Ryan Ferkel (2014-2017), who had 2,282 helpers.
This and That: Lourdes is 2-1 against ranked teams this season and 31-51 all-time ... the Gray Wolves are 1-12 all-time against the nation's top team, defeating Grand View in four sets on March 7, 2018.
