Nick Welch (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary Catholic Central H.S.) and
Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) both registered double-doubles on Wednesday evening as Lourdes cruised to a 72-55 victory over Point Park inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Welch tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double while Snow added 11 points and 15 boards to go along with four assists.
Mike Bruce (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti H.S.) tallied a game-high 18 points for the Gray Wolves while
Julian Egbo (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.) added 16 more. For Bruce, his effort marked a career-high while at Lourdes.
"I loved the energy and the shot we were getting," head coach
Dennis Hopson said afterwards. "We need to do a better job of shooting the ball though (only 38.2%). We committed too many turnovers (18) and need to be more consistent there. We only had four last game."
Leading by two mid-way through the opening half, the Gray Wolves broke the game open with a 15-4 run and eventually took the 13-point advantage, 37-24, into the locker room.
Each team made just two field goals over the first eight minutes of the second half before Lourdes went on an 11-2 run to push the lead to 19, 52-33. The Gray Wolves would not allow the Pioneers closer than 13 the rest of the way on the way to their third consecutive victory.
Lourdes outrebounded Point Park 59-42 while holding the Pioneers to just 26.8% from the floor, including just 7-of-31 (22.6%) from three-point range.
Garret McHenry led Point Park (2-6) with 14 points.
"We need to keep getting better," Hopson added. "We can't play like this on Saturday and expect to win."
Lourdes (3-2) will return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Lima, Ohio to conclude the season series against the University of Northwestern Ohio. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. inside of Racer Gymnasium.
