Lourdes opened the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference portion of its schedule Friday evening, falling in four sets to Cornerstone 25-21, 23-25, 25-11, 25-16 inside of Mol Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Cornerstone held a 52-30 advantage in kills for the match and limited the Gray Wolves to just a .025 hitting percentage on the evening.

"This was a tough match for us," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We showed some signs of good competitive play, but we were not consistent enough. We need to focus on continued improvement before our next match."

In the opening set, Lourdes led 21-17 before the Golden Eagles scored the final eight points to rally and win. The Gray Wolves hit -.050 in the stanza and Cornerstone ended the run with three Lourdes attack errors and back-to-back aces to close the set.

In set two it was the Gray Wolves' turn to rally late. Lourdes trailed 22-20 before scoring five of the final six points to even the match, taking advantage of four Cornerstone miscues.Â

Cornerstone put down 17 kills and hit .364 in the third set. An early 11-2 run by the Golden Eagles put the hosts in front by eight and they would not trail the remainder of the match.

Set four had the Golden Eagles leading wire-to-wire. Cornerstone raced out to a 7-1 lead and the Gray Wolves were never able to recover.

Michaela Eisenhauer (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta H.S.) and
McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) led Lourdes offensively with seven kills each while
Annika Devendorf (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion H.S.) dished out 24 assists.Â

Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) registered 28 digs defensively while
Allie Hale (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) added 19 more. Devendorf also tallied 13 digs for her double-double. Eisenhauer had six blocks as the Gray Wolves outblocked Cornerstone 11-8 on the night.

Alexis Angus led Cornerstone (5-0, 1-0 WHAC) with 15 kills while Olivia Keelean added 21 digs.

Lourdes (0-2, 0-1) will be idle until Feb. 9 when the Gray Wolves travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. to battle Indiana Tech. Â First serve Is set for 6 p.m. inside the Schafer Center.
