Playing its second consecutive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match on the road Tuesday evening, Lourdes suffered a 25-19, 25-23, 25-17 setback to Indiana Tech inside the Schaefer Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
"We did not play our best volleyball and we struggled to keep the pressure on them long enough to gain the momentum," head coach
Greg Reitz said following the match. "We are going to have to focus on our side of the net to get better from here."
An 8-0 Warrior run in the opening set put the hosts in front for good, 13-8, and the Gray Wolves were not able to get any closer than two the remainder of the stanza. In set two, Lourdes led 17-15 before Indiana Tech rallied with a 7-2 spurt to pull ahead and build the 2-0 lead in the match. The Gray Wolves were within two, 13-11, in set three before a 10-2 run allowed the Warriors to secure the match.
Kortney Ellison (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.) led Lourdes with nine kills and hit .318 while
Michaela Eisenhauer (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta H.S.) added eight kills and 12 digs.
Annika Devendorf (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion H.S.) handed out 22 assists for an offense that hit just .053 on the night.
Defensively,
Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) registered 14 digs while
Cammy Smith (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) added four blocks.
Taylor Paul led Indiana Tech (8-2, 6-0 WHAC) with 12 kills while Jacey Blust tallied 24 digs.
Lourdes (0-3, 0-2) will have a week off before returning home to entertain Madonna on Feb. 16. First server is set for 7 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
