Lourdes saw its three-match winning streak come to an end on Friday evening as Concordia (Mich.) defeated the Gray Wolves 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
The Cardinals limited Lourdes to just a .064 hitting percentage on the night while putting down 44 kills and hitting .254 themselves. Concordia also outdug the Gray Wolves 68-49.
An early 9-1 run in the opening set allowed the Cardinals to open up a 10-4 lead as the Gray Wolves were never able to recover. In set two, Concordia led wire-to-wire, hitting .400 in the stanza while forcing 10 attack errors from Lourdes.
The Gray Wolves led 12-9 in the third set when the visitors scored six straight points to pull in front for good, leading to the sweep.
Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) led Lourdes with eight kills while hitting .250 and
Katey Stakolich (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) guided the offense with 22 assists. Defensively,
Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) registered 13 digs.
Kayla Peters led Concordia (8-10, 4-4 WHAC) with 14 kills and hit .371 while Breann June added 10 kills and 13 digs.
"This definitely wasn't our best performance tonight," head coach
Greg Reitz said after the match. "We need to regroup and refocus quickly to get ready for tomorrow to try to take another step forward."
Lourdes (5-8, 3-5) steps out of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Mishawaka, Ind. to face Bethel (Ind.). First serve is set for 3 p.m. inside the Wiekamp Athletic Center.
