Lourdes needed less than an hour on Saturday afternoon to complete a three-set sweep of the University of Michigan-Dearborn, downing the Wolverines 25-19, 25-10, 25-14 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center to avenge an earlier loss.
"We put forth a much better performance than last night," head coach
Greg Reitz said following the match. "We had just seven hitting errors on the day and that is outstanding. We have to keep working hard to keep improving for next week."
The Gray Wolves hit .378 for the match with 38 kills while adding 11 service aces. Lourdes also limited Michigan-Dearborn to just 22 kills and .024 hitting.
Abby Gentile (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield H.S.) led the way for Lourdes with 15 kills without and error, swinging at a .652 clip. She also added nine digs defensively.
Katey Stakolich (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) handed out 31 assists while directing the offense. She also added nine digs and four service aces.
Lydia Landoll (Monroeville, Ohio/Monroeville H.S.) also had four aces.
Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) had a match-high 10 digs while
Michaela Eisenhauer (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta H.S.) tallied three blocks.
Lourdes never trailed in any set in the match. The Gray Wolves jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set. After Michigan-Dearborn tied the set at seven, Lourdes recorded the next three points and never looked back.
An 8-0 run in set two, keyed by three aces from Landoll, allowed Lourdes to pull away after the Gray Wolves had built an early 12-3 lead. The Gray Wolves raced out to an 8-1 lead in the third set on the way to completing the sweep.
Kristin Maust led Michigan-Dearborn (6-19, 3-10 WHAC) with seven kills while Amanda Wilyard had a team-high eight digs.
Lourdes (9-12, 5-7) will conclude its four-match homestand on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Siena Heights. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
