Farouk Amoo (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood H.S.) became Lourdes' all-time leading goal scorer on Wednesday afternoon but the University of Northwestern Ohio scored four times in an 18-minute span in the second half as the Racers downed the Gray Wolves 4-1 at Wildcat Stadium.
Â
"This was another tough WHAC contest," head coach
Matt Johnson said afterwards. "UNOH is athletic and well-organized. We scored a terrific early goal, but our ability to defend as a team and play with a lead was again lacking."
Â
Leon Eisert (Leipzig, Germany/Kathe-Kollwitz Gymnasium) sent a ball ahead through the middle to Amoo, who gathered, beat a Racer defender and went one-on-one with UNOH goalkeeper Rafael Lima before scoring his 22
nd career goal. Amoo passed Jake Kirchoff-Sleet (2015-2016) on the school's all-time list. The tally was his team-leading 12
th this season as well.
Â
Lourdes took the 1-0 lead into halftime despite being outshot 13-4 in the opening 45 minutes.
Â
Gonzalo La Chica tied the match 5:22 out of the intermission, heading in a ball that was sent in the air by Gustavo Moses. Mortiz Guettel put the Racers in front five minutes later, heading in a corner kick from Cameron Power.
Â
Noe Santos and Andrey Rodrigues converted penalty kicks just 1:24 apart as Northwestern Ohio (6-5-2, 5-1-1 WHAC) extended its lead.
Â
The Racers finished with a 21-9 shot advantage as the Gray Wolves'
Igor Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Pentagono) made six stops in net. Lima had two saves for the Racers.
Â
"We need to tighten up on Saturday," Johnson added. "Lawrence Tech will be a similar challenge in terms of their willingness to run and press and dominate the ball. Hopefully we'll take the chance to redeem ourselves."
Â
Lourdes (7-6-1, 2-4-1) will host Lawrence Tech on Saturday at Wildcat Stadium in a 3 p.m. kickoff. Senior Day activities will take place prior to the match.
