Lourdes opened the 2021-2022 season on the road Saturday evening, suffering a 93-61 setback to Georgetown (Ky.) inside of Davis-Reid Alumni Gymnasium.
"This was a good starting point for us to gauge where we are at," head coach
Tandy Bradford said after her debut at the helm of the Gray Wolves. "We had some good moments. Our energy level was awesome, and the ladies did some things that we had asked of them. We never quite but we know there is going to be a learning curve with such a young team as well."
The Gray Wolves trailed just 15-9 after the opening quarter and 37-26 at intermission before the Tigers outscored Lourdes 24-12 in the third period to pull away.
Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led Lourdes with 21 points, including four three-pointers, while
Gabby Stover (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington H.S.) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Erica Cary (Central City, Ky./Muhlenberg County H.S.) chipped in nine points.
Foul trouble plagued the Gray Wolves, as Lourdes was whistled for 29 personals, with Georgetown (2-0) shooting 18-of-28 from the free throw line. The Gray Wolves were just 10-of-16 from the charity stripe.
As a team Lourdes shot 33.9% from the floor and committed 29 turnovers while the Tigers connected at a 45.6% clip. Georgetown also outrebounded Lourdes 48-30, including 20-11 on the offensive end.
Madison Darnell led Georgetown with 19 points while Cassie Colon added 14 more. Grace White had 13 points and 11 boards for the Tigers.
Lourdes will return to the hardwood on Wednesday as the Gray Wolves travel to South Bend, Ind. to face Indiana-South Bend. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Student Activities Center.
