Lourdes stepped out of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Friday evening, cruising to a 25-15, 25-18, 26-24 victory over Roosevelt in a neutral site match played inside of Ariel Arena in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

The Gray Wolves forced the Lakers into 35 attacker errors, 11 coming via blocks, as Roosevelt hit -.047 on the evening.

"We came out from the start with the level of play that we have been missing," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We served aggressively without many errors. Our defense was pretty sound behind our block which really helped frustrate our opponent. Now we need to build upon this performance for tomorrow."

Lourdes scored the first six points of the match and closed the first set with the final five points to take the early lead. Leading 19-18 in set two, the Gray Wolves closed the stanza with six straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third, Roosevelt (2-15) took an 8-5 lead only to see the Gray Wolves go on a 9-2 run to pull in front. The set stayed tight, with ties at 21, 22, 23, and 24 before block from
Rafa Borges (Uberlandia, Brazil/CESEC) followed by a kill from Borges closed the match.

Borges finished the match hitting .308 with six kills while also registering six blocks.

McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) led Lourdes with seven kills while
Katey Stakolich (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) handed out 20 assists and directed an offense that hit .085.

Defensively,
Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) had 13 digs while Hall added 13 more. Stakolich contributed 12 digs to complete her double-double.

Viktoria Marysheva led Roosevelt with 13 kills and 17 digs.

Lourdes (6-10) remains in Mount Vernon on Saturday to face Asbury at noon before battling host Mount Vernon Nazarene at 4 p.m. inside Ariel Arena.
