Lourdes wrapped up the weekend's play inside Ariel Arena in Mount Vernon, Ohio on Saturday afternoon defeating Asbury 25-19, 25-14, 25-16 in a neutral site match before falling to host Mount Vernon Nazarene 19-25, 25-12, 28-26, 25-16.

In the opening match against the Eagles, Lourdes hit .222 while holding Asbury to -.027, the second straight match in which the Gray Wolves held an opponent to a negative hitting percentage.

"We played a sound match to earn that win," head coach
Greg Reitz said following the opener. "Our serve and pass were good, and our offense and defense were better."

Trailing 8-3 early in the opening set, Lourdes went on a 13-2 run to take control, building a 16-10 lead which the Gray Wolves would not relinquish. Set two saw Lourdes lead wire-to-wire, jumping out to a quick 11-4 lead. The Gray Wolves did not commit an attack error in the stanza, putting down 15 kills while hitting .395.

Lourdes took a 7-2 lead in set three and never allowed the Eagles to get closer than two points the rest of the way, completing the sweep.

Abby Gentile (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield H.S.) led Lourdes with 11 kills and 12 digs while hitting .276.Â
McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) added nine kills and 10 digs while
Katey Stakolich (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) handed out 34 assists.

Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) tallied 19 digs while
Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) added 11 more.Â
Cammy Smith (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) registered five blocks.

Emma Grace Gray paced Asbury (3-10) with eight kills, as the Eagles had just 21 for the match. Lindsey Castle had a team-high 10 digs.

In the second match against Mount Vernon Nazarene, Gentile put down 15 kills and had 18 digs while McBride added 13 kills and 23 digs. Hall also finished in double figures with 12 kills. Stakolich handed out 48 assists for an offense that hit .121 while picking up 16 digs defensively. Plasencio had 23 digs to lead all the Gray Wolves.

"We put up a good fight but they ended up making more plays than we did," Reitz said after the second match. "I like a lot of what we did to compete. We gave ourselves some things to build on from this point forward."

The opening set was tied at 16 before Lourdes went on a run, scoring nine of the final 12 points. In the second set, Mount Vernon Nazarene (23-4) hit .400 with 16 kills and no errors in leading start to finish after scoring the first seven points.

The third set had 16 ties before the Cougars were able to score back-to-back points to close out the set. A 6-0 run midway through the fourth allowed the hosts to build a 16-8 advantage on the way to closing out the match.

Nicole Winkler led Mount Vernon Nazarene with 21 kills while Tory Small hit .395 with 16 more kills.

Lourdes (7-11) returns home to the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center on Wednesday evening to begin a four-match homestand. First serve against Indiana Tech is set for 7 p.m.
