Final Results
Sixteenth-ranked Lourdes opened the 2021-2022 season in convincing fashion on Friday afternoon, cruising to a 53-4 victory over Siena Heights inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
The Gray Wolves registered three falls and a technical fall on the evening in the win.
"This was a great way to start off the season," head coach
Dock Kelly III said afterwards. "The energy and effort were tremendous and I'm very pleased with the way the guys competed today."
Cyle Wells (Springfield, Ohio/Tecumseh H.S.) recorded the Gray Wolves' first fall of the season in dramatic fashion at 149 pounds. He led 2-1 after the opening period, scoring an early takedown before riding out the period for 2:46. After falling behind 3-2 after an early fall in the second, he was able to reverse his fortune, registering a pin from his back 43 seconds into the second.
Blake Montrie (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) followed at 157 points scoring a 25-10 technical fall. He tallied 12 takedowns in his win.
Will Speight (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford H.S.) was dominant in his victory at 184 pounds. He built an early 6-1 advantage before scoring the fall at the 2:32 mark of the first.
Cody Mies (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) closed the night with a fall of his own. He recorded an early takedown before pinning his opponent just 1:01 into the contest.
Riley Rhone (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven H.S.) was credited with a forfeit victory at 125 pounds while
Nick Henneman (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) earned the same at 141 pounds.
Richard Jackson (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) and
Drew Torres (Phoenix, Ariz./Tempe Union H.S.) had wins the same way at 174 and 184 pounds respectively while
Carter Kroll (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) earned the same win at 197 pounds.
Siena Heights (0-1) scored its lone victory at 133 pounds as Randy Frailey defeated
Jimmy Balazy (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan H.S.) in a 16-2 major decision.
"We will enjoy this victory tonight and then being our preparation for our opponent next week," Kelly concluded.
Lourdes (1-0) remains at home next Friday (Nov. 12) as the Gray Wolves host Ashland. The opening bout is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
