Lourdes Falls at Home to Cornerstone Saturday

In a game which saw each team make runs in different quarters, Cornerstone used a 31-point third quarter to defeat Lourdes 72-64 on Saturday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"I like that we continue to battle and play hard," head coach Tandy Bradford said afterwards.  "We're still trying to find our rhythm and need to put four quarters together."

The visitors scored the game's first six points on the way to building a 16-9 advantage after the opening 10 minutes.  Lourdes shot just 22.2% in the opening quarter but turned the offense around in the second.  A 52.6% shooting stanza allowed the Gray Wolves to put up 25 points in the quarter.

An 11-3 run allowed Lourdes to turn a six-point deficit into a 24-22 lead following a Gabby Stover (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington H.S.) midway through the second.  The Gray Wolves would push the lead to as many as seven in the frame before taking a 34-30 lead into the locker room.

After committing just three turnovers in the first half, Lourdes made seven miscues in the third period.  Cornerstone scored the first eight points out of the break to take a lead the Golden Eagles would not surrender the remainder of the game.  A 15-4 run by Cornerstone pushed the lead to 13, 56-43, and the guests would head into the final period with a 14-point edge.

Trailing by as many as 16 in the fourth, Lourdes battled back.  A 13-1 run in less than five minutes allowed the Gray Wolves to pull within three, 67-64, after Logan Ingram (Mount Pleasant, Mich./Mount Pleasant H.S.) drained a triple with three minutes to play.  Lourdes was unable to score again down the stretch and three late free throws allowed the Golden Eagles to secure the win.

Mercedes Wagner (Sherwood, Ohio/Fairview H.S.) led Lourdes with 16 points while adding eight rebounds and four steals while Ingram added 15 points.  Stover had 14 points and four assists while Shallyn Miley (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan H.S.) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Lourdes finished the game shooting 38.7% from the floor and committed 16 turnovers.  Cornerstone (3-6, 1-6 WHAC) shot 39.0% with 16 miscues but made 18 free throws to the Gray Wolves' nine.

Mackenzie Stien led Cornerstone with 19 points and eight rebounds while Kennedy Helderop tallied 10 points, eight boards, six assists, and six steals.

Lourdes (3-8, 0-6) will remain at home on Monday evening as the Gray Wolves host Olivet.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
