Fourth-ranked Lourdes completed its season sweep of Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday evening, as the Gray Wolves downed the Cougars 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 inside of Ariel Arena in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
"This was a pretty complete team victory today," head coach
Greg Reitz said after the match. "We served well, passed well, and played sound offensively and defensively."
The Gray Wolves hit .264 for the match, including a blistering .455 clip in the second set in which Lourdes committed just two attack errors. Lourdes also hit .310 in the opening stanza.
Defensively, Lourdes held Mount Vernon Nazarene to -.039 for the night, including just four kills and a -.160 hitting mark in the third and final set.
Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) led Lourdes with 13 kills while
Ricardo Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) swung at a .385 clip.
Ian Fields (Phoenix, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor H.S.) directed the offense with 30 assists while adding three service aces and four blocks.
Guga Heidrich (Braco do Norte, Brazil/Colegio Unificado) notched a match-high 10 digs while
Harrison McBean (Melbourne, Australia/Northern College of the Arts) registered seven blocks.
Riley Barretto led Mount Vernon Nazarene (3-5, 3-5 WHAC) with eight kills and swung at a .571 clip while Caden Donaldson had nine digs.
Lourdes (7-1, 5-1) will return home to the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center for its next three matches, beginning Friday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Cornerstone. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
