Lourdes took the opening set from undefeated Cornerstone on Friday evening, but the Golden Eagles took the next three sets in a 22-25, 25-11, 25-17, 25-15 victory over the Gray Wolves inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Trailing 18-15 in the opening set, Lourdes went on a 6-0 run behind the service of
McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.), as the Gray Wolves rallied to take the opening set. In the second, Lourdes was forced to -.067 hitting and Cornerstone finished the set on a 14-3 run to even the match.
Set three saw the Golden Eagles hit .481 with 14 kills and just one error. The Gray Wolves led 17-15 when Cornerstone scored the final 10 points of the stanza to take the lead in the contest. Lourdes again hit negative, -.029, in the fourth as the Golden Eagles completed the victory.
Michaela Eisenhauer (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta H.S.) led Lourdes with 10 kills and hit .474 as the team hit just .041 for the contest overall.
Vanessa Villarreal (Monroe, Mich./Saint Mary Central Catholic H.S.) had a team-high 16 digs.
Bailey Cummings led Cornerstone (12-0, 8-0 WHAC) with 16 kills while Patsy Morris had 23 digs. Alexis Angus registered 12 blocks as the Golden Eagles held a 19-5 edge in that category.
"We had a tough night tonight," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We need to regroup and get ready for Sunday."
Lourdes (1-6, 1-5) will take to the road on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves head to Rochester Hills, Mich. to face Rochester (Mich.). First serve is set for 1 p.m. inside of Garth Pleasant Arena.
