Lourdes Sweeps Rochester for Program’s 200th All-Time Victory

Lourdes earned its second victory in its last three matches on Sunday afternoon, downing Rochester (Mich.) 26-24, 26-24, 25-16 inside of Garth Pleasant Arena in Rochester Hills, Mich. for the Gray Wolves' 200th win in program history.

In just its 11th season all-time, Lourdes is now 200-139 as a women's volleyball program.

"We were able to put together a complete three-set match," head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "We had to battle at times and were able to do just that.  Now we have to focus on Tuesday."

The Gray Wolves had to battle late in the opening set to pull out the win.  Trailing 23-19, Lourdes scored the next five points to extend the set before winning 26-24.  Set two had 15 ties and five lead changes before the Gray Wolves finally put away the win.  In the third, Lourdes held Rochester to -.040 hitting and used a 10-2 run to build a 17-7 lead on the way to closing out the match.

Vanessa Villarreal (Monroe, Mich./Saint Mary Central Catholic H.S.) led Lourdes with 12 kills and 20 digs while McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) added 11 kills and three service aces.  The Gray Wolves hit .168 as a team with Megan Vayansky (Pickerington, Ohio/North H.S.) handing out 28 assists directing the offense.

Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) led the defense with 21 digs while Kortney Ellison (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.) added 10 more.

Olivia Francis led Rochester (3-11, 0-9 WHAC) with 12 kills while Carly Rodman had 38 digs.  The Warriors hit just .072 as a team for the match.

Lourdes (2-6, 2-5) will remain on the road on Tuesday evening, heading to Lima, Ohio to face the University of Northwestern Ohio.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside of Racer Gymnasium.
