Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: A pair of top-15 showdowns are ahead for Lourdes men's volleyball as the Gray Wolves continue Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action.  Lourdes hosts 13th-ranked Goshen on Friday evening before taking the trip to 10th-ranked Indiana Tech on Tuesday night.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 10th season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball, Greg Reitz has a 180-68 (.726) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  He has earned six conference Coach of the Year honors during his first nine seasons at Lourdes, including the WHAC Coach of the Year in 2018.  He is the only head coach in program history.

Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 2-1 series edge all-time against Goshen dating back to Jan. 22, 2019.  Last season, the Maple Leafs defeated the Gray Wolves for the first time on Feb. 12, 2020 in a five-set match inside the Ebeid Rec Center.  The series is even 1-1 in the Ebeid Rec Center.  Lourdes won the only previous match against Indiana Tech in straight sets on Jan. 25, 2020 in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Wrapping Up Last Week: The Gray Wolves opened WHAC play on Tuesday (Jan. 26) with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-19 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene at home.  Jeff Lam hit .500 with 12 kills while Guga Heidrich added 17 digs defensively.  On Friday (Jan. 29), Lourdes downed Cornerstone 25-21, 25-13, 22-25, 25-10 in the first road match of the season.  Lam put down 14 kills and hit .571 while Heidrich added 13 more digs.

Scouting Goshen: The Maple Leafs have won three straight matches after downing Aquinas in four sets on Jan. 27.  Alexander Rabadzhiev leads Goshen with 56 kills and is hitting .289 while Michael Wahl has handed out 126 assists.  Lucas Sauder leads the team with 11 service aces.  Defensively, Brayton Yoder has a team-high 59 digs while Ian Fox has registered 16 blocks.

Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors enter the week having won five straight after downing Mount Vernon Nazarene in five sets on Tuesday (Feb. 2) night.  Daynte Stewart has put down a team-high 75 kills and is hitting .242 while Brandon Jones has dished out 168 assists.  Stewart and Mason Milan lead Indiana Tech with 11 service aces each.  On defense, Joey Hermes has registered 79 digs while Chase Christiansen has recorded 29 blocks.

Facing Ranked Foes: With two ranked opponents ahead in the next week, Lourdes is 31-53 all-time against teams in the NAIA top-15 (previously top-10) poll.  Last year the Gray Wolves went 2-3 against ranked foes.

Heidrich Earns National Honor: Guga Heidrich was named the NAIA National Defender of the Week for his efforts in last week's two victories.  Heidrich recorded 30 digs in the wins over Mount Vernon Nazarene, an average of 4.29 per set, while also adding six assists and two service aces.

Gray Wolves Sweep WHAC Honors Again: For the second straight week, Lourdes racked up all three Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conferences.  Guga Heidrich and Henrique Gehrke repeated as WHAC Defender and Setter of the Week respectively while Jeff Lam earned WHAC Attacker of the Week honors.  Lam hit .538 with 26 kills (4.33/set) while Gehrke handed out 55 assists (9.17/set).

Gray Wolf Debuts: Bryant Herrera made his Lourdes debut last Tuesday against Mount Vernon Nazarene and made another appearance on Friday at Cornerstone.  He recorded three kills and a block over the two contests.  Ben Mormile saw his first collegiate action on Friday at Cornerstone, taking the floor for one set against the Golden Eagles.

Among the NAIA Leaders: Lourdes ranks sixth in the NAIA in digs per set with 11.58 and is eighth in kills per set at 12.58.  Individually, Guga Heidrich ranks third in digs per set with 4.25 while Jeff Lam is fourth averaging 1.00 service aces per stanza.  Lam is also fifth in the country in kills per set (4.33) and hitting percentage (.538).  Henrique Gehrke is eighth nationally tallying 9.40 assists per set.

Adding to the Record: Henrique Gehrke continues to distance himself from second place on the school's career assist list.  The senior enters the week with 2,470.  Gehrke has 188 more than current assistant coach Ryan Ferkel (2014-2017), who is second on the list.

Nearing the School Record: Jeff Lam enters the week second in program history with 82 service aces.  He is just five aces shy of the school record holder, Evan Gebert (2017-2020), who tallied 87 during his four years at Lourdes.

Record Watch: Jeff Lam and Ricardo Gehrke rank third and fifth respectively in career kills.  Lam currently has 772 kills, surpassing Nick DiMarco's (2012-2013) total of 753 while Gehrke is one spot behind DiMarco in the list with 686 career kills.  Lam is 230 kills behind second place Frank Craig (2012-2015), who graduated with 1,002 kills.  Henrique Gehrke ranks sixth all-time at Lourdes with 487 career digs, 75 behind fifth place Matheus Andrade (2018-2019).

An Expanded WHAC: The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference has added a pair of new teams for the upcoming 2021 men's volleyball season.  Cornerstone has added the sport for the first time while affiliate member Mount Vernon Nazarene has also joined the league.  The WHAC has eight members for the upcoming campaign.

This and That: Lourdes has posted winning records in all nine previous seasons, recording at least 15 victories per year ... opponents are hitting just .138 against the Gray Wolves this year.
